Inleiding
SPUISLUIS van het type duikersluis met een directe afwatering in de Rijn, gesitueerd op de Rijnkade tegenover nummer 143. De sluis regelt de waterafvoer van riolen en voormalige waterstromen (overkluisde en verlegde beekstromen, grachten) uit de Arnhemse binnenstad. De gietijzeren heugelstang met tandwielen dateert uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw.
Tegenover Rijnkade 28 bevindt zich een vrijwel identieke sluis.
Omschrijving (bovengronds)
Deze sluis bestaat uit een gietijzeren rechte heugelstang met tandwielen en ingezwenkte voet op een rechthoekige onderbouw, welke is voorzien van een hardstenen omranding. De rechthoekige put-opening wordt afgesloten door een dubbel ijzeren luik.
Boven de waterspiegel van de Rijn bevinden zich afvoeropeningen.

Introduction
SPUING LOCK of the type culvert lock with direct discharge into the Rhine, situated on Rijnkade opposite number 143. The lock regulates water discharge from sewers and former watercourses (covered and diverted streams, ditches) from Arnhem city centre. The cast-iron gear shaft with cogwheels dates from the second half of the 19th century.
Opposite Rijnkade 28 there is a virtually identical lock.
Description (above ground)
This lock consists of a cast-iron straight gear shaft with cogwheels and angled foot on a rectangular foundation, which is provided with a sandstone surround. The rectangular pit opening is closed by a double iron shutter.
Above the water level of the Rhine there are discharge openings.

Nineteenth-century SPUING LOCK.
