Inleiding
WINKELWONING, omstreeks 1905 gebouwd in Art Nouveau-stijl, wellicht naar ontwerp van architect W. Diehl (1876-1959). Het pand, een winkel met bovenwoning, is gelegen in de aaneengesloten zuidelijke gevelwand van de Vijzelstraat.
Omschrijving
Smal pand van drie bouwlagen en zolderverdieping op langgerekt rechthoekig grondplan. De zolderverdieping heeft een plat dak met dakschild aan de voorzijde. Het dakschild is belegd met gesmoorde pannen.
De VOORGEVEL heeft een asymmetrisch ingedeelde winkelpui in de eerste bouwlaag en een symmetrisch ingedeelde bovenbouw. De WINKELPUI bestaat uit een portiek met winkeldeur (links) en een groot teakhouten etalagevenster met afgeronde hoek op hardstenen plint (rechts). De pui is gevat tussen twee hardstenen hoekpilasters met uitbuikende basementen en fantasie-kapitelen. De pui-beëindiging, waarschijnlijk een strook glas-in-lood bovenlichten en latei, is weggewerkt achter verticale schroten. De tweede bouwlaag heeft een groot rechtgesloten venster tussen gedecoreerde hardstenen penanten en afsluitende latei. Het teakhouten kozijn heeft een getoogd kalf waarboven een tienruits bovenlicht. De bovenliggende gevel van de derde bouwlaag is in rode verblendsteen in kruisverband gemetseld en voorzien van speklagen in licht gele steen. In deze verdieping bevindt zich in het midden een rechthoekige erker op een driezijdig gesloten balkon. Het balkon heeft smeedijzeren sierhekken en rust op vier natuurstenen consoles in Art Nouveau-stijl. Twee consoles zijn overhoeks geplaatst. De erker heeft een groot venster met ingeknikte bovenhoeken aan de voorzijde en twee smalle vensters in de zijden, alle met bovenlichten. De smalle balkondeuren met bovenlichten aan weerszijden van de erker worden afgesloten door geprofileerde natuurstenen lateien en blinde bakstenen segmentbogen. De smalle traveeën worden afgesloten door een geprofileerde uitkragende goot op gesneden klossen. De erker heeft een gemetselde balkonopbouw met smeedijzeren sierhek in Art Nouveau-stijl. Het balkon doorbreekt de goot en sluit aan op een bakstenen dakkapel. De dakkapel heeft aan de voorzijde een balkondeur onder natuurstenen latei en getoogd bovenlicht. De hoeken van het balkon en de dakkapel zijn hoger opgemetseld en hebben een natuurstenen afdekking. De houten goten van de dakkapel kragen uit en steunen op gesneden klossen.
Het pand bezit onder meer een gaaf WINKELINTERIEUR met onder andere wit betegelde wanden met diverse sierstrips, een grote spiegel, een klok en lampen met majolica. Overige interieuronderdelen, zoals een trappenhuis met gesneden trappaal in (geometrische) Art Nouveau-stijl en een kelder met troggewelven.
Waardering
WINKELPAND met winkelpui en bovenwoning uit ca. 1905 (wellicht naar ontwerp van architect W. Diehl).

Narrow property of three storeys and attic storey on an elongated rectangular ground plan. The attic storey has a flat roof with roof gable at the front. The roof gable is covered with clay tiles.
The FRONT FACADE has an asymmetrically arranged shop front on the first storey and a symmetrically arranged upper structure. The SHOP FRONT consists of a portico with shop door (left) and a large teak wood display window with rounded corner on a hardstone plinth (right). The front is framed between two hardstone corner pilasters with projecting bases and ornamental capitals. The front termination, probably a strip of glass-in-lead fanlights and lintel, is hidden behind vertical boards. The second storey has a large closed rectangular window between decorated hardstone pilasters and closing lintel. The teak wood frame has an arched soffit with above it a ten-pane fanlight. The upper facade of the third storey is built in red facing brick in Flemish bond and provided with bands in light yellow stone. On this storey is situated in the centre a rectangular oriel on a three-sided closed balcony. The balcony has wrought iron decorative railings and rests on four natural stone consoles in Art Nouveau style. Two consoles are placed diagonally. The oriel has a large window with bevelled top corners at the front and two narrow windows on the sides, all with fanlights. The narrow balcony doors with fanlights on either side of the oriel are closed by profiled natural stone lintels and blind brick segmental arches. The narrow bays are closed by a profiled projecting gutter on carved corbels. The oriel has a brick balcony surround with wrought iron decorative railing in Art Nouveau style. The balcony breaks through the gutter and adjoins a brick dormer window. The dormer window has a balcony door at the front under natural stone lintel and arched fanlight. The corners of the balcony and dormer window are built higher and have natural stone coping. The wooden gutters of the dormer window project and rest on carved corbels.
The property has among other features an intact SHOP INTERIOR with among others white tiled walls with various decorative strips, a large mirror, a clock and lamps with majolica. Other interior components, such as a stairwell with carved stair newel in (geometric) Art Nouveau style and a cellar with barrel vaults.
