Inleiding
Betonnen VIADUCT uit 1922-1923, ontworpen door de dienst Gemeentewerken Arnhem. Het viaduct (d.i. de Schelmseweg) voert scheef over de eronder gelegen Cattepoelseweg. De Cattepoelseweg is aangelegd in een door zandafgravingen ontstaan ravijn. Even ten zuidwesten van dit viaduct bevindt zich bij de kruising van de Apeldoornseweg over de Cattepoelseweg een soortgelijk maar groter betonnen viaduct uit 1928.
Omschrijving
Betonnen VIADUCT waarvan de hoofddraagconstructie bestaat uit een horizontaal rijdek dat via een aanvulling steunt op een boog. De aanvulling is aan de zijkanten van de brug opgesloten tussen betonnen langswanden. De boog is ingeklemd tussen massieve landhoofden. Het rijdek is aan weerszijden afgezet met een gesloten betonnen balustrade. Ter plaatse van de landhoofden krijgt de balustrade een accent door middel van een plaatselijke verbreding en verhoging, waarop aan de buitenzijde wapen(schilden) zijn afgebeeld. In de zuidelijke balustrade is een gedenksteen aangebracht met de tekst: "Gebouwd krachtens raadsbesluit van 27 december 1921 no.6338 met rijkssteun. Door den dienst van gemeentewerken ontworpen en gebouwd met werkloozen. Voor het verkeer opengesteld 24 maart 1923". De balustrades zijn aan de buitenzijde voorzien van een keperboogfries.

Description
Concrete VIADUCT whose main load-bearing structure consists of a horizontal deck that is supported via a fill on an arch. The fill is enclosed on the sides of the bridge between concrete longitudinal walls. The arch is wedged between massive abutments. The deck is bordered on both sides with a closed concrete balustrade. At the location of the abutments, the balustrade receives emphasis through a local widening and heightening, on the outer side of which coats of arms are depicted. In the southern balustrade a commemorative stone is mounted with the text: "Built by virtue of council resolution of 27 December 1921 no.6338 with state support.
