The register's description

Inleiding.

Siertraliewerk voordeur in stijl vernieuwd.

Introduction.

Somewhat set back from the building line of the largely linear development on the Rechterstraat lies a TOWNHOUSE. Three facades are exposed on the plot; the left facade is partially attached to the neighbouring building. Located in an ornamental garden with a stone front step on the street side, on the right a carriage drive, laid alongside the Binnendommel which formerly flowed past the building. To the rear right the former coach house (substantially altered, outside protection). The building was constructed in the fourth quarter of the nineteenth century for the manufacturer Van der Eerden. He was owner of a timber yard. Around the turn of the century Boxtel had many timber yards, where round timber for telegraph and telephone poles, but also sleepers for railways and tramways were manufactured. Stylistically the house belongs to Eclecticism. Next to the building (west side) until circa 1938 lay the Binnendommeltje with the Meulekensebrug over it, at that time forming the boundary between the Rechterstraat and the Nieuwstraat. The built-in roller shutters on the windows of the ground floor have disappeared over time. The establishment in the building of the Health Service for Animals (1949 to 1967) led to some minor alterations in the interior, now partly restored in style. In 1988 new ironwork was placed along the street (corresponding with the original condition) with some original elements incorporated. Decorative grillwork front door renewed in style. Various new windows in the roof slopes. The substantially altered coach house falls outside protection.

Description.

The brick building with cut joints laid in English bond occupies a square footprint and comprises two storeys with an attic floor beneath a pavilion roof with slopes. In the slopes covered with slate shingles, block slate and mastic tiles, two zinc oeil-de-boeuf attic windows are placed on the front and right sides. A wrought-iron ornament crowns the roof ridge. At the corners four chimneys under caps with decorative wrought ironwork.

Front side with symmetrical five-bay cornice-topped facade with corner pilasters and slightly projecting central section containing glazed panel door in neo-Renaissance design with moulded edge and fanlight. This door is flanked by two two-light sash windows. On the upper storey a balcony on scroll-shaped consoles with balustrade, behind which double balcony door with fanlight. On either side of this two T-windows. In the front facade, as well as in the right facade, all facade openings are provided with a plastered, moulded stucco surround with crowning, baroque detailed cornice. Further a running high stone plinth with (only in the front facade) casements, crowned with a stone drip moulding. Likewise moulding below the windows on the upper storey. Running moulded gutter, lying at the rear facade and left facade, overhanging and moulded at the front facade and right facade, resting on scroll-shaped consoles in a roof line with otherwise between the consoles decoratively worked panels. The right facade has in both storeys three windows as mentioned, further detailed as the front facade. At the rear facade on the ground floor to the left a wooden conservatory on stone base with flat roof has been added. Overhanging, moulded cornice on corbels and fanlight with characteristic fine glazing bars. Centrally a glazed back door. To the right a right-angled single-storey extension with flat roof. Further including three arched T-windows with stone sill. The left facade adjoins the neighbouring building at the front, the rear lies exposed. In the facade two arched windows and a small coupled stair window. Floor plan with centrally (simplified) vestibule, followed by central corridor to back door. On the right side living rooms and kitchen, on the left side living rooms and main stair to the upper floor with bedrooms (now also living rooms). Of the interior noteworthy features include: the original cellar with trough vault and profile beams, marble floor and wainscoting, stair, stucco ceilings, decorated panel doors with moulded door architraves, stair window with etched glass.

Valuation.

The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an expression of the development and concentration of the timber-processing industry in Boxtel in the nineteenth century. It has architectural-historical value because of the aesthetic qualities of the design and the carefully detailed ornamental work. It has ensemble values as a striking, set back from the building line component of the historic building stock on the Rechterstraat and as a harmonious architectural whole situated next to the filled-in Binnendommel, consisting of townhouse, ornamental garden and coach house. It is of importance because of the architectural intactness of the main form and preserved elements from the interior.
