Inleiding
Grote- of Maria Onbevlekte Ontvangeniskerk (Kerkstraat 15, monumentnummer 31870).

Description
Introduction
RESIDENCE, probably built shortly after the city fire of 1751, around 1870 the facade was modernized and circa 30 years later the property was divided by means of a partition wall and widened on the right side by one bay; likewise at that time the wooden summer house situated against the left side wall was added. The combined property is constructed in a craftsmanlike-traditional building style. In front of the house there is still street furniture in the form of ornamented sandstone bollards. Internally the property was divided in two at the end of the nineteenth century. From the beginning of the nineteenth century it served as a dwelling, rosoglio mill and butter trade for Willem Jurgens (1780-1836) and his son Johannes Wilhelmus Jurgens (1807-1887). Number 6 now serves as a residence; number 8 is part of a furniture business located on the Kerkstraat.
Description
The property is located in the old centre of Oss, diagonally opposite the south-east side of the state-protected R.K. Grote or Maria Onbevlekte Ontvangeniskerk (Immaculate Conception Church) (Kerkstraat 15, monument number 31870). It is a residential/business building of two storeys with facades of, on the left, exposed brickwork (English bond) and on the right, painted brick. The building has a hipped roof covered with Dutch tiles with the ridge parallel to the street. The front facade of the property erected on a rectangular plan comprises seven bays. The building has a sandstone plinth that runs across the full width of the front facade. This also applies to the large natural stone cordon moulding. Below this cordon moulding, the eight substantial anchors of the floor beam layer are visible. Various window types, frames still original. In both number 6 and number 8 the original panelled door with fanlight and moulded surround has been preserved. The door of number 6 is further provided with two cast-iron grilles and a likewise handle. In both the roof and the front facade of number six there are two dormer windows crowned with pediments with four-pane windows. Striking about the roof is the small height difference between the two sections, with number 8 being slightly lower than number 6. On the ridge of number 6, against the division with number 8, a renewed mortared chimney has been placed. In the facade of number 8 there is a small Jewish wall stone from 1899 in the lower left next to the entrance; number 8 was then widened by approximately two metres on the west side. From a building perspective, number 6 forms the oldest part of the two and possibly dates from shortly after the city fire of 1751. Internally, older elements have been preserved such as the cellar with groin vaults. Also the floor beams with bead moulding have been preserved. From circa 1900 date a painted stucco ceiling and several fine internal doors with etched glass. The roof structure of number 6 is formed by a wooden collar-tie roof truss with hacked and gutted carpenters' marks in which older components are reused. In the interior of number 8 lowered ceilings have been installed above which the original floor beam layer still exists. Further, there is a wooden staircase with ornamented spindles. On the left side of the house there is a green-painted wooden summer house from circa 1900. This incorporates, among other things, painted glass, a floor with ornamented tiles and a mosaic. Presumably a similar summer house was situated at the rear of the property; this is evident from the identical tile floor still preserved there. The former rosoglio mill was located at the rear of the house. Nothing remains of it. At the front of number 6 there is still a raised step with five sandstone bollards on a square base ornamented with floral motifs. These bollards are interconnected by a wrought-iron chain.
Valuation
The property, as a former residence and rosoglio mill of the Jurgens family, is a particular expression of a socio-economic development and possesses as such a high cultural-historical value. The property is of general importance because of the high-quality architectural quality of the constituent components (house, summer house and street furniture). The development history of the residential-business building is considered fascinating and represents building-historical and business-historical importance. It has ensemble values because of the structural integrity of the urban environment (street pattern, ecclesiastical building).
