Inleiding
STADSVILLA, in 1888 gebouwd voor leden van de margarinefabrikantenfamilie Jurgens in vormen van de Neo-renaissance. De villa is gelegen aan de westzijde van de Molenstraat en heeft een sterke bouwkundige en sociaal-economische samenhang met de villa's op de nummers 63 en 65. Tegenwoordig dient de villa zowel bedrijfs- als woondoeleinden.
Omschrijving
Grote, geheel vrijliggende, onderkelderde, tweelaags stadsvilla op een ruwweg rechthoekige grondslag met gevels in schoon metselwerk. Het met natuurstenen blokken en banden zeer rijk geornamenteerde pand heeft een plat dak met omlopend schild gedekt met leien in maasdekking. Opvallende elementen zijn verder nog de ronde hoektoren aan de linkerzijde, de overdekte ingang met hardstenen trap en de aan de rechterzijde gelegen rijk geornamenteerde hoekpartij met topgevel. Het pand werd oorspronkelijk van de weg gescheiden door een ruime tuin aan de voorzijde. De beplanting is verwijderd en de voorliggende ruimte doet dienst als parkeerruimte. Ter afscheiding van de publieke ruimte is nog wel een ijzeren hekwerk aanwezig. Aan de achterzijde bevond zich een zeer diepe tuin. Ook hier is de meeste beplanting verwijderd en tevens is de tuin sterk ingekort. Op dat achterterrein is nieuwbouw gerealiseerd. De stadsvilla heeft vanaf de bouw in 1888 tot 1917 gediend tot huisvesting voor leden van de margarinefabrikantenfamilie Jurgens. Bouwkundig en sociaal-economisch is er een duidelijke samenhang met de twee andere fabrikantenvilla's aan de westzijde van de Molenstraat, de nummers 63 en 65. Deze dienden respectievelijk tot huisvesting voor de familie Van den Bergh en andere leden van de familie Jurgens. Alle drie de villa's zijn vrijstaand, groot en rijk geornamenteerd in neorenaissancevormen uitgevoerd en zijn als zodanig de opvallende getuigen van het eens zo rijke Osse fabrikantenverleden. De voorgevel van het pand is van oranje verblendsteen, opgetrokken op een gecementeerde gerusticeerde plint. De vensters zijn rechthoekig of met een rondboog gesloten. De vensteromlijstingen met pilasters en frontons of bogen van zandsteen. De raamindelingen zijn deels gewijzigd. Op de verdieping balkon en borstwering met stenen balusters. Verder wordt er overvloedig natuursteen gebruikt in lijstwerk, banden, diamantkoppen, casementen en hoekverstevigingsblokken. Overdekte ingangsportiek met hardstenen trapje. Fraaie originele paneeldeur. Gootlijst met tableau van geornamenteerde tegels. Aan de linkerzijde van de voorgevel bevindt zich ter hoogte van de verdieping en het dak een uitkragende tweelaags achtkante hoektoren. Deze heeft een boven het dak uitstekende spits met leien in rijndekking, lantaarn en een met zink beklede ui. De rechterzijde van de voorgevel bestaat uit een uitspringend gedeelte onder een haaks op de weg staand zadeldak met topgevel aan de voorzijde. In dit gedeelte is weer overvloedig gebruik gemaakt van natuursteen ter decoratie; onder andere in hoekpirons, klauwstukken en eerder genoemde elementen. In het dakschild van het linkergedeelte zijn twee fraai gedetailleerde dakkapellen met klauwstukken, leibedekking en pironen geplaatst. In de frontonbekroning van de topgevel is een gestileerd bouwjaartal in reliëf aangebracht. De achter- en zijgevels van het pand zijn vervaardigd van machinale baksteen in schoon metselwerk. Ornamentiek en detaillering zijn aanmerkelijk soberder dan bij de voorgevel het geval is. Opvallende elementen zijn de mozaïeken van siermetselwerk in de boogtrommels boven de vensters. Achter bij de rechterzijgevel bevindt zich de ingang voor het dienstpersoneel. Ook hier is de detaillering sober gehouden. Aan de achterzijde van het pand is de glazen wand van de trappartij die doorloopt tot in het kapgedeelte van het dak het meest opvallende element. Verder bevindt zich aan de achterzijde nog een kleine éénlaags garage uit 1917. De hoge plataan die hierbij staat heeft dezelfde ouderdom als het huis. Intern is het pand grotendeels symmetrisch langs een centrale gang ingedeeld. Op de begane grond aan elke zijde van de gang twee grote kamers ensuite. Veel van de oorspronkelijke ornamentiek is nog bewaard gebleven zoals onder andere stucplafonds, lijstwerk, schuifdeuren en vensteromlijstingen. Bijzonder is de grote trap aan de achterzijde van het pand die doorloopt tot in de kap. De grote houten trappaal is rijk geornamenteerd evenals de ijzeren trapspijlen. De lichttoetreding heeft plaats via de enorme raampartij met glas-in-loodruitjes, die doorloopt tot in de kap. Het achterste gedeelte van de rechterzijde van het pand had oorspronkelijk een functie ter huisvesting en circulatie van het dienstpersoneel. Hiervoor is er in dit gedeelte een aparte trapopgang geplaatst. Evenals aan de buitenkant is ook hier de interne detaillering aanmerkelijk soberder uitgevoerd dan elders in het huis.

De villa is in haar hoedanigheid van fabrikantenvilla van algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling en wegens het belang voor de geschiedenis van het wonen. Large, completely detached, sub-basement, two-storey city villa on a roughly rectangular ground plan with facades in ashlar brickwork. The building, very richly ornamented with natural stone blocks and bands, has a flat roof with encircling shield covered with slates in Maas-bond pattern. Notable elements further include the round corner towers on the left side, the covered entrance with natural stone steps and the richly ornamented corner section on the right side with a gabled roof. The building was originally separated from the road by a spacious front garden. The planting has been removed and the preceding space serves as a parking area. An iron railing is still present to separate it from the public space. At the rear there was a very deep garden. At the rear of the building the glass wall of the stairwell which extends up into the roof truss section is the most striking element. Furthermore at the rear there is a small single-storey garage from 1917. The tall plane tree standing beside it has the same age as the house. Internally the building is largely symmetrically divided along a central corridor. On the ground floor on each side of the corridor two large rooms en suite. Much of the original ornamentation has been preserved such as among others stucco ceilings, mouldings, sliding doors and window surrounds. Particularly striking is the large staircase at the rear of the building which extends up into the roof truss. The large wooden stair newel is richly ornamented as are the iron stair balusters. Light enters through the enormous window section with leaded light panes, which extends up into the roof truss. The rear section of the right side of the building originally had a function for housing and circulation of the domestic staff. For this purpose a separate stair access has been placed in this section. As on the outside, the internal detailing here too is considerably more restrained than elsewhere in the house.
