Inleiding
In de voormalige bedding van de bij Megen afgesneden Maasarm staat een MONUMENT ter herdenking van een achttal bij de Maaswerkzaamheden in 1935 gedode en gewonde arbeiders. Het monument is gelegen in een weiland, tegen een steilrand.
Omschrijving
Het eenvoudige monument bestaat uit een hardstenen plaat met gefrijnde rand en het opschrift: "Hier werden door het hemelvuur / 3 arbeiders gedood en 5 gewond / Werkverschaffing Maasverbetering / 4 sept. 1935 ". De plaat wordt van het weiland gescheiden door een smeedijzeren pijlpuntenhek op bakstenen basement.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geografische, landschappelijke en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de strijd tegen het water en de werkverschaffing in het Interbellum. Het is gaaf bewaard gebleven en uiterst zeldzaam.

In the former bed of the Maas arm cut off near Megen stands a MONUMENT commemorating eight workers killed and wounded in the Maas works in 1935. The monument is located in a meadow, against a steep slope.
Description
The simple monument consists of a hardstone plate with chased edge and the inscription: "Here by the heavenly fire / 3 workers were killed and 5 wounded / Work provision Maas improvement / 4 Sept. 1935 ". The plate is separated from the meadow by wrought-iron spearpoint fencing on a brick basement.
Valuation
The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a geographical, landscape and socio-economic development, in particular the struggle against water and work provision in the Interwar period. It has been well preserved and is extremely rare.
