Inleiding
Het vrijstaande eclectische WOONHUIS, gelegen aan één van de twee voormalige hoofdstraten in de oude kom van Megen, heeft een eenvoudige stucdetaillering en dateert uit omstreeks 1885.
Omstreeks 1925 is de paneeldeur vervangen. Recentelijk zijn in het dakschild aan de straatzijde twee daklichten geplaatst. Ook is toen een hardstenen stoep voor het pand gelegd. Het pand, met diepe achterliggende stadstuin, is gelegen binnen het van rijkswege beschermde stadsgezicht.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags huis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een zadeldak met oud-Hollandse pannen. De bakstenen voorgevel telt drie vensterassen en heeft een gepleisterde plint, een geprofileerd fries met gootlijst, hoeklisenen en een middenrisaliet. Zowel de in de risaliet geplaatste paneeldeur met bovenlicht, als de beide flankerende getoogde zesruits schuifvensters, zijn voorzien van een gestucte, geprofileerde en geschilderde omlijsting met kuif. De bakstenen zijgevels zijn voorzien van rechte steekankers en zesruits schuifvensters op de begane grond. Aan de noordelijke zijde zijn op de verdieping twee vierruits schuifvensters geplaatst, terwijl de bovenliggende vliering wordt verlicht door een ijzeren rondlicht. Haaks op de achtergevel staat een oorspronkelijke eenlaags aanbouw, voorzien van een vierruits schuifvenster, zadeldak en oud-Hollandse pannen. In het interieur is een centrale gang met aan weerszijden kamers.
Waardering
Het woonhuis is van algemeen belang. The detached eclectic RESIDENTIAL HOUSE, located on one of the two former main streets in the old centre of Megen, has simple stucco detailing and dates from circa 1885.
Around 1925 the panelled door was replaced. Recently two roof lights were placed in the roof slope on the street side. Also at that time a hard stone step was laid in front of the building. The building, with a deep rear town garden, is located within the municipally protected townscape.
Description
The single-storey house has a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof with old-Dutch tiles. The brick front facade counts three window axes and has a plastered plinth, a moulded frieze with gutter moulding, corner pilasters and a central risalit. Both the panelled door with fanlight placed in the risalit, and the two flanking arched six-paned sash windows, are provided with a stuccoed, moulded and painted surround with hood moulding. The brick side facades are provided with straight brick bond anchors and six-paned sash windows on the ground floor. On the north side on the upper floor two four-paned sash windows are placed, while the overlying loft space is lit by an iron round light. Perpendicular to the rear facade stands an original single-storey extension, provided with a four-paned sash window, gabled roof and old-Dutch tiles. In the interior is a central corridor with rooms on either side.
