Inleiding
WOONHUIS (dwarshuistype) gebouwd omstreeks 1875 in opdracht van fabrikant J. Boon naar een ontwerp van architect M. Viets uit Zuidhorn in een Eclectische stijl. In 1942 zijn in de zuidgevel van het achterhuis openslaande deuren met zijlichten gezet. In 1943 zijn op het achterhuis dakkapellen op het zuidelijk- en westelijk dakvlak geplaatst en in 1970 en 1974 zijn de gevels van zowel achterhuis als de aangebouwde schuur nogal gewijzigd. Door deze ingrepen zijn zowel het achterhuis als de schuur van ondergeschikt belang voor bescherming van rijkswege.
Het woonhuis is gelegen op een ruim langwerpig perceel in een gebied, de Gast genaamd, dat zal worden voorgedragen als beschermd gezicht. Het deels omhaagde perceel wordt aan de voorzijde van de openbare weg gescheiden door een eenvoudig uit omstreeks 1875 stammend ijzeren HEK. Aan de voorzijde bevindt zich centraal een beweegbaar deel.
Omschrijving
WOONHUIS bestaande uit een DWARSHUIS, ACHTERHUIS en aangebouwde SCHUUR. Het achterhuis en de schuur zijn voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Het één verdieping hoge, deels onderkelderde DWARSHUIS op nagenoeg rechthoekige plattegrond is opgetrokken in rode baksteen op een gepleisterd trasraam waarboven ter hoogte van de onderdorpels van de vensters een gepleisterde lijst. Het pand wordt gedekt door een schilddak waarop zwarte geglazuurde Friese golfpannen; twee opnieuw opgemetselde nokschoorstenen met kap; houten kroonlijst. De gevels worden geleed door gepleisterde zeshoekige hoekpilasters met cannelures waarop banden versierd met diamantkoppen en getoogde zesruits vensters onder een gemetselde segmentboog met gepleisterde sluit- en aanzetstenen.
De entree in segmentboogvormig portiek bevindt zich in het gepleisterde middenrisaliet van de voorgevel (oostzijde) en bestaat uit twee houten paneeldeuren met getoogd bovenlicht waarin geschilderd glas-in-lood; twee treden hoge hardstenen stoep deels met gekleurde tegelvloer. Het middenrisaliet, dat wordt omlijst door zeshoekige pilasters met cannelures, is boven de kroonlijst doorgetrokken en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak; omlijsting van zeshoekige pilasters met cannelures bekroond met bolvormige decoraties; samengesteld tweedelig venster (roedenverdeling verdwenen) met keperboogvormige bovenlichten onder één keperboog. Aan weerszijden van het risaliet twee getoogde zesruits vensters.
In de zuidgevel een getoogd zesruits venster en een getoogd tweeruits keldervenster.
Het ACHTERHUIS is tegen de achtergevel (westzijde) aangebouwd.
In de noordgevel een getoogd zesruits venster en een liggend keldervenster met diefijzer.
In het INTERIEUR zijn ondermeer van belang: de houten paneeldeuren met venster en houten omlijsting, de houten vloeren, in de centraal gelegen hal het stucplafond en de houten tochtdeur met roedenverdeling en gekleurd glas, in de linker voorkamer het stucplafond met Eclectische schilderingen, de houten blinden, de ingebouwde kasten en de houten schouw waarboven een gestucte decoratie, in de rechter voorkamer het balkenplafond.

DWELLING HOUSE (transverse house type) built circa 1875 commissioned by manufacturer J. Boon to a design by architect M. Viets from Zuidhorn in an Eclectic style. In 1942 glazed doors with sidelights were installed in the south facade of the rear house. In 1943 roof dormers were placed on the south and west roof faces of the rear house and in 1970 and 1974 the facades of both the rear house and the adjoining barn were considerably altered. Through these interventions both the rear house and the barn are of minor importance for national monument protection.
The dwelling house is situated on an ample elongated plot in an area called De Gast, which will be proposed as a protected townscape. The partially hedged plot is separated from the public road at the front by a simple iron GATE dating from circa 1875. A movable section is centrally located at the front.
Description
DWELLING HOUSE consisting of a TRANSVERSE HOUSE, REAR HOUSE and adjoining BARN. The rear house and barn are of minor importance for protection purposes.
The single-storey, partly cellared TRANSVERSE HOUSE on an approximately rectangular ground plan is constructed in red brick on a rendered timber frame, above which at the level of the window sills is a rendered band. The building is covered by a hipped roof with black glazed Frisian barrel tiles; two newly repointed roof ridge chimneys with caps; wooden cornice. The facades are articulated by rendered hexagonal corner pilasters with fluting, on which bands decorated with diamond-head motifs and arched six-light windows beneath a brick segmental arch with rendered keystones and voussoirs.
The entrance in a segmental arch porttico is situated in the rendered central risalit of the front facade (east side) and consists of two wooden panelled doors with arched fanlight containing painted stained glass; a two-step high rendered stone stoop partly with coloured tile flooring. The central risalit, which is framed by hexagonal pilasters with fluting, extends above the cornice and is covered by a gabled roof; framing of hexagonal pilasters with fluting topped with spherical decorations; a composite two-part window (glazing bars missing) with herringbone-arch fanlights beneath a single herringbone arch. On either side of the risalit two arched six-light windows.
In the south facade an arched six-light window and an arched two-light cellar window.
The REAR HOUSE is built against the rear facade (west side).
In the north facade an arched six-light window and a recumbent cellar window with theft-bars.
In the INTERIOR are notably: the wooden panelled doors with window and wooden frame, the wooden floors, in the centrally situated hall the stucco ceiling and the wooden draught door with glazing bars and coloured glass, in the left front room the stucco ceiling with Eclectic paintings, the wooden shutters, the built-in cupboards and the wooden mantelpiece with stucco decoration above, in the right front room the beam ceiling.
