Inleiding

Introduction

RESIDENTIAL HOUSE built in Classical style in 1836, possibly on the foundations of an older building. From 1870 to 1936 the house served as a notary's office and from 1936 as a Dutch Reformed rest home. Since the 1970s the house has been privately occupied again and restored to its original residential function. The residential house is freely situated in a spacious garden, with park-like layout.

Description

Single-storey building, with a small cellar, on a rectangular plan under a hipped roof covered with buried tuiles du Nord; on the flattened part rubberoid. On the eastern side there is a small extension under a lean-to roof covered with buried tuile du Nord tiles. On the hipped roof there are two, and on the extension one square brick chimney. The facades are provided with a white rustica plaster layer with black-painted plinth. The asymmetrical front facade on the north-western side (Verdilaan) has a door with ornamental grille in a Classical frame with ashlar cornerstones and a single-pane central fanlight; in front of the door an ashlar doorstep. On the left one and on the right two tall sash windows with blinds. Above the cornice two dormer windows under gabled roofs, with corniced corner pilasters and broken pediments with a double ogee; the dormer windows contain simple sash windows.

The long facade on the south-western side has seven sash windows, lower than on the front, with wooden sills under stepped keystones with diamond point in the plasterwork. Below the windows there are spandrels in the plasterwork with a lattice motif. In the roof there are two oeil de boeufs with zinc mascarons and copper roof covering. At the roof edge a cornice as on the front. Furthermore on this side two new copper rainpipes and a wrought-iron flagpole holder.

The south-eastern facade has a sash window and two tall conservatory doors with blinds under rhombus ornaments with inscribed circles. Also here a cornice as on the front.

The north-eastern facade has an extension under a lean-to roof with shiplap wind boards. On the short side a small window, on the long side a three-light and a divided nailed-on door. An inset stone notes 1870 as the date of the extension. Next to the extension there is a cellar window under a step to the double glass doors of the upper room. Next to it a four-pane window with brick reveal and a glass door to the kitchen. In the roof there are dormer windows with respectively three and four vertical windows and in the projecting part one small window and a three-light. The dormer windows, under a flat roof, have corniced corner pilasters and simple wooden mouldings. The gutter line is simpler in execution than on the other three sides.

INTERIOR The interior on the ground floor still has a partially intact layout with late 19th-century stucco ceilings, timber joists in one of the rooms, a marble corridor floor, wooden panel doors and a draught vestibule in the neo-Louis XIV style, from 1927. In the cellar green and yellow/orange glazed tiles and a heating place. In the upper room fixed cupboards with ogee moulding.
