Inleiding

Description
Introduction
AGRICULTURAL BARN "Roons Hoeve", built in 1929 on behalf of Mr D. Lankhuizen, husband of Mrs Lankhuizen-de Roon. The barn was intended for the storage of grain and as a stable. From 1968 the barn was used by the municipality of Amsterdam as a storage facility for road salt, from approximately 1989 the barn was again used as a storage facility for potatoes and grain. Since 1989 the original light strips under the raised roof have been sealed with horizontal wooden sections.
Description
Large, free-standing three-aisle agricultural barn, built on a rectangular ground plan under a double raised hipped roof with red Dutch tiles. On the ridge corners ceramic ridge tiles have been placed. The barn has a depth of eight bays (rafters), of which six are in the highest section. On all sides against the side aisle is a rectangular brick extension under a lean-to roof. Under the eaves of the lean-to roofs are soffit boards installed. The internal structure of the three-aisle barn consists of rectangular braced rafters which carry a post-and-truss roof. The roof is boarded between the first and second light strip, above the second light strip unboarded. The posts of the rafters are placed on brick piers. The gables of the extensions are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, above a plinth in dark red brick in Flemish bond, finished with a roll moulding. Unless otherwise stated, the window axes contain a rectangular wooden window with glazing bars and brick drip stone. Unless otherwise stated, the doors are originally executed as rectangular clinker-built doors with wrought iron hinges.
The northern gable (Noordzeekanaal side) has in the line of the central nave a rectangular extension under a lean-to roof. This extension contains in the north gable three high-placed horizontal wooden windows with three-pane glazing bars and at the far left a walking door. Below the windows is a long wooden coat rack under a braced wooden canopy. The left side gable of the extension contains a small horizontal window, the right side gable contains a double door. On either side of the extension is the gable of the side aisles, in which is a large double loading door (the left loading door has been renewed). At the far left and right are the gables of the extension on the longitudinal gables. The gable of the left extension contains a walking door and a high-placed window, the gable of the right extension contains a double door.
The left side gable, the eastern longitudinal gable, has nine high-placed horizontal windows with four-pane glazing bars and a double door. Three walking doors have been sealed over time.
The rear gable, the southern gable, has a similar construction to the northern gable. The extension in the middle has in the south gable three high-placed four-pane windows, in the right side gable a double door and small window, the left side gable is blank. The gables of the side aisles originally contain a large double loading door, of which the right is now sealed with vertical wooden sections. The gables of the extensions at the far left and right each contain a double door.
The right side gable, the western longitudinal gable, has four high-placed horizontal four-pane windows, a two-part clinker-built door and at the far left a high-placed coupled horizontal window with two four-pane sashes. Two walking doors have been sealed over time.
Valuation
The agricultural barn is of general importance from a typological, cultural and architectural historical point of view as a rarely surviving and well-preserved example of a three-aisle agricultural barn from the 1920s of the 20th century, with double raised roof for the purpose of light admission.
