VILLA NOVA with associated RAILINGS. Monumental rendered villa in Eclectic style, built in 1856 by order of Johan Hora Adema, receiver of the registration. Villa Nova is located at the corner of the Pollesingel with the front facade facing the Rijksstraatweg. The post-war extensions to the rear do not qualify for protection. On the occasion of the restoration of Villa Nova in the seventies, the front garden was redesigned by architect Mien Ruys. Behind the house lies the original deep garden with several monumental trees, a hillock and a pond.

Description

Villa consisting of two building volumes: a rendered front house of two storeys with behind it a white-painted rear house of one storey with an adjoining shed. The front house is covered by gently pitched gabled roofs under black Dutch tiles; overhang with simple wind brace on moulded consoles; on the ridge cast iron ornament. Gable front at the facade with corner pilasters with rectangular fielded panels: at the top the name Villa Nova in applied gilded letters within a moulded border. On the ground floor in the projecting part three double hinged arched six-pane doors under a zinc-clad iron canopy on iron struts; on the first floor on either side of the central hinged balcony doors arched six-pane windows with natural stone lintels under rendered eyebrow arches. Small balcony with decorative wrought and cast iron railing. In the recessed gable section on both storeys arched six-pane hinged doors, with on the first floor a (renewed) balcony with cast and wrought iron railing: above and below the balcony the same iron canopies as on the front gable. A double panelled door with a cast iron tree of life in the fanlight in the west gable forms the entrance to the house. The white-painted rear house is covered by a double gabled roof with black glazed Dutch tiles. In the side gables straight-headed six-pane windows with on the east side furthermore horizontal basement windows with theft bars. Adjoining at right angles is a simple shed. The INTERIOR of the front house has been preserved fairly intact and features among other things stucco ceilings and marble chimney surrounds in the front rooms on the ground floor; furthermore laminated wall panels, panelled doors and the inner shutters of the doors; in the front rooms on the first floor heating installations with moulded and decorated round-arch cornices. RAILINGS. Cast and wrought iron railing, located at the beginning of the drive to Villa Nova. The railing consists of a spear-pointed spearhead railing between railing piers which are filled with crossed ornaments on which palmette motifs. On the railing piers stands in gilded figures the date 1856.
