Omschrijving onderdeel 1.
BORG, in oorsprong 15de-eeuws; huidig voorkomen 18de- 19de- eeuws. Langgerekt rechthoekig bakstenen gebouw, waarvan de verschillende bouwperioden in het metselwerk met diverse baksteensoorten en -formaten goed herkenbaar zijn; één bouwlaag op hoge kelderverdieping onder schilddak met twee schoorstenen en grijze pannen; de borgmuren staan met de aan de voorzijde (= zuidzijde) uitgebouwde bakstenen borgklip (bouwkundig dus één geheel vormend met het huis) direct in de brede binnengracht. De symmetrische voorgevel is negen traveeën breed: in het midden de neoclassicistische ingangspartij met dubbele glasdeuren en halfcirkelvormig bovenlicht; aan weerszijden ervan telkens drie zeslichts vensters en een dienstingang; kroonlijst met trigliefen in fries; achter- en zijgevels, direct in het water staand, met onregelmatige raamindeling; in de kopse dakschilden een dakkapel onder lessenaarsdakje. De borgklip met voortuintje (zie verder onder 2) heeft keermuren die het verlengde zijn van de korte zijmuren van de borg; de derde keermuur, die de twee andere verbindt, loopt evenwijdig aan de voorgevel van de borg en fungeert als bruggenhoofd van de toegangsbrug. Inwendig onder meer stijlkamers (het huis heeft een museumfunctie) met van elders afkomstige onderdelen, o.a. schoorsteenmantels en behangsels.
Waardering
De BORG is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege het vrijwel ongestoorde grondplan en exterieur, waarvan het muurwerk duidelijk de verschillende bouwfasen laat zien;
- als goed en gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een bescheiden Groningse borg.

Description of component 1.
BORG, originally 15th century; present appearance 18th-19th century. Elongated rectangular brick building, in which the various building periods are clearly recognizable in the masonry with different brick types and sizes; one storey on a high basement storey under a hipped roof with two chimneys and grey tiles; the borg walls, together with the brick borg clip built out on the front (= south side) (forming one structural whole with the house), stand directly in the broad inner moat. The symmetrical front facade is nine bays wide: in the middle the neoclassical entrance section with double glass doors and semicircular fanlight; on either side three six-light windows and a service entrance each; cornice with triglyphs in frieze; rear and side facades, standing directly in the water, with irregular window arrangement; in the sloped roof ends a roof dormer under a lean-to roof. The borg clip with small front garden (see further under 2) has retaining walls that are the continuation of the short side walls of the borg; the third retaining wall, which connects the other two, runs parallel to the front facade of the borg and functions as the bridgehead of the access bridge. Internally, among other things, period rooms (the house has a museum function) with components from elsewhere, including chimney mantels and wallpapers.
Valuation
The BORG is of general importance:
- because of its age;
- because of the virtually undisturbed ground plan and exterior, in which the masonry clearly shows the various building phases;
- as a good and well-preserved example of a modest Groningen borg.
