Omschrijving
Omschrijving
Cultuurhistorische omschrijving

Description
Description
PASTORY connected on the north side to the south side of the church by means of a connecting section. The connecting section consists of one storey closed by a flat roof with a high, square, brick chimney shaft. In the east gable there are four regularly spaced cross windows with leaded glass windows in the eight-pane fanlight, with a recessed wooden panelled door on the far left in a rectangular porch. Above the porch and the windows there is a horizontal band consisting of vertical ornamental brickwork, one and a half stretches high. The west gable of the connecting section has an irregular arrangement.
The pastory with a square floor plan consists of two storeys and an attic closed by a tent roof covered with slate in Dutch bond with a brick chimney shaft on the ridge. In three of the four roof slopes there is a roof dormer with a flat roof. The gables with travertine frame and a stretcher course, are constructed in yellowish-brown brick in English bond. The gables have an asymmetrical arrangement with a conservatory in the south gable and a three-sided bay window in the east gable, a porch with entrance with to the right of the entrance a foundation stone with the text P.L.P./J.TH.M. Geubbels/Pastor'. The wall openings are closed by a roll course one and a half stretches high. On the first floor this roll course is extended to a horizontal band running across all the gables. Above this is a wide brick gutter supported by wooden blocks. The windows on the ground floor consist of a single-pane or cross window with a leaded glass window in the eight- or six-pane fanlights. On the first floor there are six-pane cross windows with a horizontal glazing bar arrangement.
The design of the pastory is spacious in concept following a traditional design with influences from the Amsterdam School. Influences of the Amsterdam School can be recognised in the bands of fine vertical ornamental brickwork and in the closed brick parapet of the three-sided bay window.
The asymmetrical FRONT FACADE is three window bays wide. On the ground floor in the left bay there is the three-sided bay window without travertine frame with corner strips and a roll course to close off the raised parapet, which serves as a balustrade for the balcony on the first floor. On the first floor there is a double glazed door. In the bay window there is a single-pane window with eight-pane fanlight, flanked on either side by a single-pane window with six-pane fanlight. On the ground floor in the middle bay there is a rectangular porch with a recessed panelled door with on the first floor a cross window. On the ground floor in the right bay there is a cross window with eight-pane fanlight with on the first floor a cross window. In the centre of the roof slope there is a roof dormer with two coupled four-pane cross windows.
On the lower left of the asymmetrical LEFT SIDE GABLE there is a cross window with eight-pane fanlight. In the centre above there is respectively a cross window and a double glazed door above the conservatory. The conservatory consists of a brick substructure above which single-pane windows with leaded glass six- and eight-pane fanlights with a double glazed door with four-pane fanlight in the centre. The conservatory is closed by a flat roof with roof overhang on simple wooden blocks.
The REAR GABLE is, like the front facade, three window bays wide. On the upper left in the left bay there is respectively a cross window and a small single-pane window. On the lower right in this bay there is a cross window with six-pane fanlight. In the middle bay there is on the ground floor a cross window with six-pane fanlight with on the first floor a cross window. On the ground floor in the right bay there is a double glazed door flanked on either side by a single-pane window with four-pane fanlight. On the first floor there is a composite window with a six-pane cross window in the centre flanked on either side by a three-pane casement window. In the roof slope there is a roof dormer identical to that on the front. Almost centrally against the RIGHT SIDE GABLE is the connecting section. Bordering the flat roof of the connecting section are three tall narrow windows for light into the stairwell. In the windows there are leaded glass windows depicting faith, hope and charity. In the same vertical axis there is the roof dormer in the roof slope with three coupled four-pane windows. To the left of the connecting section there is in a window bay a cross window with six-pane fanlight on the ground floor and a cross window on the first floor.
The designs for the leaded glass windows of the firm Intercodam from Amsterdam in the INTERIOR of the pastory are influenced by the Amsterdam School, expressionism with a traditional, figurative representation of faith, hope and charity. These influences are also visible in the woodcarving including the wooden stairpost with balustrade. Via a draught vestibule with leaded glass window one enters the corridor. The wainscoting in the corridor is completely covered with black and blue square glazed tiles, which transitions into a red tiled floor. In the front room there is a diamond-patterned stucco ceiling.
Valuation
PASTORY built as part of a complex in 1931-32 to the design of C. HARDEMAN.
- Of architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a pastory with a traditional floor plan designed by architect Hardeman. The architecture of the pastory shows influences of the Amsterdam School in interior and exterior.
- Of urban planning value located within the built-up area of Rietmolen on the site of the former waterboard church from 1835 by architect Dibbets.
- Of cultural-historical value because of the symbolism reflected in the architecture, but especially in the leaded glass windows and the tile tableaux from the firm Intercodam from Amsterdam.
Cultural-historical description
Architect C. HARDEMAN (1893-1961) was a member of the Nederlansch Instituut voor Architecten (N.I.V.A.). Originally from Rotterdam, he moved to Oldenzaal in 1925. He built many churches in Twente, for example in Rossum, and elsewhere in the country, for example in Delftzijl and Soest. In addition to churches, he received commissions for the construction of schools, elderly care centres and hospital renovations. In the church of Rietmolen he used, as he did in the church in Enter (Ov.), a combination of axial and central plan building. The combination of these two types provided the desired spatial effect, which allowed the parish to participate more fully in the liturgical celebration.
