Inleiding
Voormalige ATELIERWONING met aangebouwde BERGING/GARAGE, gebouwd in 1930 door architect Job Hansen in opdracht van de kunstschilder Ekke Kleima. Hansen en Kleima waren beiden lid van de Groninger kunstkring De Ploeg. In het uit geometrische volumes bestaand huis zijn zowel aan het Functionalisme verwante als traditionele elementen toegepast. In 1956 is het huis aan de achterzijde uitgebreid met een aangebouwde schuur met plat dak.
Het karakteristieke pand dat nog steeds een zeer moderne indruk maakt ligt op de hoek van de Oosterstraat en de Oostervalge op een taps toelopende kavel grond.
Omschrijving
De voormalige ATELIERWONING die bestaat uit een rechthoekige vorm waar een trapeziumvorm tegenaan is geplaatst, is opgetrokken in rode Groninger strengperssteen. Het pand is twee bouwlagen hoog en heeft een plat dak, dat omlijst wordt door een forse kroonlijst, en een lessenaarsdak gedekt met een zwart geglazuurde tuile du Nord. Tegen de nok van dit dak is een strook met glasplaten gelegd om bovenlicht te creëren voor het atelier eronder.
De gevels worden geleed door asymmetrisch geplaatste stalen vensters (waarvan een deel hoekvensters) met zinken onderdorpels. De hoofdentree bevindt zich aan de zuidoostzijde en bestaat uit een gelakte deur met drie deurlichten. Former ARTIST'S HOUSE with attached STORAGE/GARAGE, built in 1930 by architect Job Hansen on behalf of the painter Ekke Kleima. Description
The former ARTIST'S HOUSE, which consists of a rectangular form with a trapezoidal form placed against it, is constructed in red Groningen pressed brick. The building is two storeys high and has a flat roof, bordered by a substantial cornice, and a lean-to roof covered with black glazed Meuse tile. Against the ridge of this roof a strip of glass panes has been laid to create a fanlight for the studio below.
The facades are articulated by asymmetrically placed steel windows (some of which are corner windows) with zinc sills. The main entrance is on the south-east side and consists of a painted door with three door lights. To the right of the door are steel French doors, which are connected to the main entrance by a one-step high brick step. On the north-west side there is a side entrance, consisting of a glass door, which provides access to the storage.
Against the south-east side, the STORAGE/GARAGE has been built in red brick under a lean-to roof, covered with black glazed Meuse tile. The north-east facade of the garage consists of a sliding wall of American pine. At the rear of the garage there is a flat extension from 1956 with a double window and a door on the north-west side.
The layout of the INTERIOR is virtually unchanged.
