Inleiding
OPHAALBRUG uit de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw over de Usquerdermaar. De brug heeft heel vroeger waarschijnlijk bij boerderij "Grote Kruisstee" behoord en is aangelegd om het bij de boerderij behorende land aan de andere zijde van het water te kunnen bereiken. In 1877 zijn de hameigebinten van de brug hersteld door het Waterschap Hunsingo, dat hem toen in zijn bezit had. Uit archiefgegevens van het Waterschap blijkt dat de brug er in 1866 ook al lag.
De brug die vlakbij het haventje van Usquert ligt vormt een markeringspunt aan de Westhornseweg.
Omschrijving
OPHAALBRUG met houten hameipoort en een ijzeren opengewerkte balans, die wordt gekoppeld door diagonaalstaven en een ijzeren dwarsbalk. De hameistijlen worden ondersteund door vier ijzeren langsschoren. Introduction
BASCULE BRIDGE from the second half of the 19th century over the Usquerdermaar. The bridge probably belonged to the farmhouse "Grote Kruisstee" at a much earlier date and was constructed to enable access to land belonging to the farmhouse on the other side of the water. In 1877 the timber frame members of the bridge were restored by the Waterschap Hunsingo, which then owned it. Archive records from the Waterschap show that the bridge was already in place in 1866.
The bridge, which lies close to the small harbour of Usquert, forms a landmark point on the Westhornseweg.
Description
BASCULE BRIDGE with wooden frame gate and an iron open-work balance, which is coupled by diagonal struts and an iron crossbeam. The frame stiles are supported by four iron longitudinal braces. The gate, consisting of wooden planks on two iron I-beams, hangs from the balance by two hanging rods and is raised by means of a crank via a pulley. The bridge has two wooden planks as bridge railings and concrete abutments.
