Omschrijving onderdeel 3:
BOUWHUIZEN en GRACHTMUUR; symmetrisch links en rechts de binnenplaats afsluitend twee eenvoudige bouwhuizen op rechthoekige plattegrond; witgeschilderde baksteen, één laag onder schilddaken met gemengd rode en grijze pannen; oorspronkelijk geen dakgoten; linker bouwhuis met grote ronde koetspoort; elk bouwhuis heeft aan de binnenplaatszijde een vanuit de gevelmuur doorlopende dakkapel met zadeldakje (type Vlaamse gevel); meerlichtvensters; de korte gevels aan de kasteelzijde vormen bouwkundig één geheel met de grachtmuur, die de binnengracht aan de noordzijde begrensd; verder hebben binnen- en buitengrachten gewonen aarden oevers; het middenstuk van de grachtmuur dient als bruggenhoofd van de toegangsbrug (zie onder 4); de grachtmuur loopt als borstwering slechts enkele decimeters door boven het maaiveld van de binnenplaats; eertijds op de borstwering een hekwerk.

BUILDING HOUSES and MOAT WALL; symmetrically enclosing the courtyard on the left and right, two simple building houses on rectangular plan; whitewashed brick, one storey under hipped roofs with mixed red and grey tiles; originally no gutters; left building house with large round coach gate; each building house has on the courtyard side a roof dormer running through from the facade wall with a small gabled roof (Flemish gable type); multi-light windows; the short gables on the castle side form an architectural unit with the moat wall, which borders the inner moat on the north side; furthermore the inner and outer moats have natural earth banks; the central section of the moat wall serves as the abutment of the access bridge (see under 4); the moat wall runs as a breastwork only a few decimetres above the ground level of the courtyard; formerly a railing on the breastwork.
