Inleiding
JACHTOPZIENERSWONING met POMP, gelegen aan de noordzijde van de kruising van een aantal paden in het Kroondomein. Het pand, genaamd de Hooge Duvel, is in 1901 gebouwd als dubbele, gespiegelde jachtopzienerswoning met faciliteiten voor een beperkt boerenbedrijf, zoals varkens- en geitenhokken tegen en in het achterhuis. Enige jaren later is tegen beide zijgevels van het achterhuis een bakhuisje toegevoegd.
Bakhuisjes en varkenshokken zijn verwijderd en het pand huisvest sinds het einde van de jaren '80 (20e eeuw) slechts één woning.
Omschrijving
Het in kruisverband gemetselde, bakstenen pand is opgetrokken op samengestelde plattegrond. Deze bestaat uit een U-vormig voorhuis en een rechthoekig achterhuis. De breedte van het achterhuis is globaal de helft van die van het voorhuis. Het voorhuis heeft een omlopend zadeldak (U-vorm), het achterhuis een zadeldak. Beide gedekt met rode verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De nok van het voorhuis heeft drie rookkanalen en een windvaan in de vorm van een jachtopziener met hond. Dit soort windvanen komen op alle jachtopzienerswoningen voor. Het pand is gedeeltelijk onderkelderd en heeft een gecementeerde plint.
Daar waar de voor- en zijgevels van het voorhuis een lijstgoot hebben, bevindt zich onder de goot een gecementeerde cordonlijst met daarboven een pseudofries met siermetselwerk in bruinroze en witte baksteen. De schuifvensters van het voorhuis zijn voorzien van luiken.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde VOORGEVEL bevat geheel links en rechts naar voren springende smalle bouwdelen met op de begane grond een 6-ruits schuifvenster en op de verdieping een 4-ruits stolpraam. Het schuifvenster in het linker bouwdeel is gewijzigd en niet meer schuivend. Het gevelvlak tussen de bouwdelen bevat geheel links en rechts een entree met houten opgeklampte deur en 2-ruits bovenlicht en daartussen twee 6-ruits schuifvensters. Boven laatstgenoemde schuifvensters heeft het dakvlak twee dakkapellen met bewerkte wangen en een 4-ruits stolpraam. De dakkapellen hebben een flauw hellende steekkap. De topgevels van de buitenste bouwdelen hebben schijnspanten, waarvan delen zijn dichtgezet met panelen met versieringen in ajour. In het midden van de gevel hangt een hertegewei met daaronder een klein blind schild, geverfd in een rode kleur. Een dergelijke versiering komt bij alle jachtopzienerswoningen voor en aan het aantal zijtakken van het gewei is de positie van de bewoner af te lezen.
De LINKER ZIJGEVEL van het voorhuis bevat twee 6-ruits schuifvensters, het linker daarvan is gewijzigd en niet meer schuivend. De linker zijgevel van het achterhuis heeft van links naar rechts een halfrond afgesloten gietijzeren venster, een deur, een klein venster achter een diefijzer en wederom een deur. Het gepleisterde gedeelte geheel links geeft de plek van het verwijderde bakhuisje aan.
De ACHTERGEVEL van het voorhuis bevat links en rechts van het achterhuis een 3-ruits schuifvenster met luik. Het linker venster is aan de onderzijde ingekort. De symmetrisch ingedeelde achtergevel van het achterhuis bevat op de begane grond vier luiken, die naar de verwijderde varkenshokken voerden. Daarboven bevinden zich twee kleine openingen naar voormalige kippenhokken. Tegen de gevel waren in oorsprong trappetjes naar de openingen. De geveltop heeft twee luiken.
De RECHTER ZIJGEVEL van voor- en achterhuis zijn identiek aan, maar gespiegeld ten opzichte van de linker zijgevel.
In de tuin bevinden zich diverse regenputten en een pomp onder een afdak. De pomp, van het merk Carvens, is deels van gietijzer en heeft een mondstuk in de vorm van een dierenkop. De pomp loost op een hardstenen gootsteen.
Waardering
Voorheen dubbele jachtopzienerswoning uit 1901, met pomp.
- Van architectuurhistorische waarde als goed en - vooral wat betreft het exterieur - gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een jachtopzienerswoning. Het pand valt op door hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten, zoals het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Karakteristiek zijn onder meer het siermetselwerk en de gesneden onderdelen.

HUNTSMAN'S LODGE with PUMP, located on the north side of the intersection of a number of paths in the Crown Estate. The building, named the Hooge Duvel, was built in 1901 as a double, mirrored huntsman's lodge with facilities for a limited farming operation, such as pig and goat pens against and in the rear building. A few years later a bakehouse was added against both side gables of the rear building.
Bakehouses and pig pens have been removed and the building has housed since the end of the 1980s (20th century) only one dwelling.
Description
The building is laid in running bond brickwork, built on a composite ground plan. This consists of a U-shaped front building and a rectangular rear building. The width of the rear building is roughly half that of the front building. The front building has a perimeter gabled roof (U-shape), the rear building a gabled roof. Both covered with red improved Dutch tiles. The ridge of the front building has three chimney flues and a weathervane in the form of a huntsman with dog. This type of weathervane appears on all huntsman's lodges. The building is partially cellared and has a cemented plinth.
Where the front and side gables of the front building have a list gutter, there is below the gutter a cemented cordon moulding with above it a pseudo-frieze with decorative brickwork in brownish-red and white brick. The sash windows of the front building are fitted with shutters.
The symmetrically arranged FRONT FAÇADE contains at the far left and right projecting narrow building sections with on the ground floor a 6-pane sash window and on the upper storey a 4-pane casement window. The sash window in the left building section has been modified and is no longer sliding. The façade panel between the building sections contains at the far left and right an entrance with wooden cleated door and 2-pane fanlight and between them two 6-pane sash windows. Above the latter sash windows the roof plane has two roof dormers with worked cheeks and a 4-pane casement window. The roof dormers have a shallow sloping roof. The gable ends of the outer building sections have false roof trusses, parts of which are filled in with panels with openwork decorations. In the middle of the façade hangs a stag's antler with below it a small blind shield, painted in a red colour. Such decoration appears on all huntsman's lodges and the position of the occupant can be read from the number of side branches of the antler.
The LEFT SIDE GABLE of the front building contains two 6-pane sash windows, the left one of which has been modified and is no longer sliding. The left side gable of the rear building has from left to right a semi-circular finished cast-iron window, a door, a small window behind a thief trap and again a door. The plastered section at the far left indicates the location of the removed bakehouse.
The REAR FAÇADE of the front building contains left and right of the rear building a 3-pane sash window with shutter. The left window is shortened at the bottom. The symmetrically arranged rear façade of the rear building contains on the ground floor four shutters, which led to the removed pig pens. Above these are two small openings to former chicken pens. Small staircases to the openings were originally against the gable. The gable end has two shutters.
The RIGHT SIDE GABLE of front and rear building are identical to, but mirrored with respect to the left side gable.
In the garden there are various rainwater butts and a pump under a shelter. The pump, of the brand Carvens, is partly of cast iron and has a spout in the form of an animal head. The pump drains to a sandstone sink.
Valuation
