Inleiding
Vrijstaand HOUTEN WOONHUIS, gelegen aan de Engelanderholt te Beekbergen. Het pand is rond 1908 in opdracht van dr. Oosten als bouwpakket uit Noorwegen aangevoerd. Het betreft het type 2, nr. 34 van de Strømmen Trævarefabrik uit Christiniania, het huidige Oslo.
In 1911 liet hij de naastgelegen grotere woning Engelanderholt 18 bouwen. Dit pand is eveneens gebouwd uit een houten bouwpakket uit Noorwegen. Beide panden liggen ver terug van de weg en bevinden zich op één erf dat via een lange oprit vanaf de Engelanderholt te bereiken is. Rondom beide panden bevindt zich een ruime, aangelegde, tuin met diverse boom- en struiksoorten, waaronder een Sequoia. Buiten het andere woonhuis, Engelanderholt 18 (monumentnummer 514553), valt er verder geen bebouwing op dit erf onder de bescherming. Recent is het pand naar achteren uitgebreid in aangepaste architectuur. Ook deze uitbreiding valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Het pand is opgetrokken op rechthoekige grondslag met een T-vormige opbouw. De wanden zijn opgebouwd uit rabatdelen, boven een bakstenen plint. Het pand bestaat uit één respectievelijk twee bouwlagen onder met rode verbeterde Hollandse pannen gedekte, haaks op elkaar staande zadeldaken. De tweede bouwlaag kraagt ver over. Dakgoten ontbreken. Het dak steekt ver over en rust op doorgestoken sporen. Aan de kopzijde hebben de daken geprofileerde windveren.
Daar waar wanden elkaar kruisen steken zij ver door ten opzichte van het gevelvlak. Het doorstekende gedeelte neemt naar boven in breedte toe en fungeert daar als console/korbeel voor het dakoverstek en het overstek van de tweede bouwlaag. De vensters zijn gevat in een rijk geprofileerde omlijsting.
De VOORGEVEL bevat links, tegen het éénlaags gedeelte, een veranda-achtig portiek dat toegang geeft tot de hoofdentree. De portiek is aangekapt en het dak rust op geprofileerde stijlen. De balustrade van de portiek en de trap er naar toe heeft in ajour figuurtjes, waaronder hartjes. Aan de voorzijde zijn tussen de stijlen glaspanelen aangebracht. Achter de portiek een enkelruits tweelicht. Rechts bevat de voorgevel in het hoge bouwdeel op de begane grond links een meerruits deur. Rechts de trap naar boven. Deze is gemarkeerd door een hellend verloop van verticaal aangebrachte betimmering en een onderzijde die in het zicht is gelaten. De verdieping heeft een venster met drie enkelruits ramen. De windveer heeft op de top een bewerkte gevelmakelaar.

Description

The building consists of one and two storeys respectively under gabled roofs clad with red improved Dutch tiles, standing perpendicular to each other. The second storey projects far out.
