Langwerpig rechthoekig, geheel onderkelderde voormalige BIBLIOTHEEK van twee bouwlagen en pannen zadeldak met schild rechts evenwijdig aan de straat. Negen traveeën brede voorgevel, geheel opgetrokken in baksteen op een gecombineerde hard- en zandstenen plint. Rechts van het midden zijn twee traveeën uitgevoerd als een toren van drie bouwlagen met tentdak. In dit deel is de ingang gelegen, uitgevoerd met hard- en zandstenen omlijsting waarbinnen houten deur met op het kalf "Openbare Leeszaal". Links van de hoofdingang een geheel in de natuurstenen plint opgenomen, kleinere houten deur naar het souterrain, eveneens rondboogvormig. Rechts van de ingang korfboogvormige souterrainvensters met diefijzers, links alle souterrainvensters rechthoekig, eveneens met diefijzers. Eerste bouwlaag met houten kruisvensters, geheel met glas-in-lood ruiten en korfboogvormige beëindiging. Tweede bouwlaag eveneens houten kruisvensters met glas-in-lood ruiten, ditmaal afgesloten met strekken. Links boven de ingang groot samengesteld venster waarvan het bovenste deel als tweelicht met deelzuil is uitgevoerd. Rechts boven de deur een uitgebouwde erker.
Rond alle vensters ter decoratie natuurstenen blokken, voorts is de gevel gedecoreerd met staaf- en sierankers. Gevelbeëindiging met onderbroken daklijst op klossen, daarboven kleine dakkapellen in stijl, waarbij de dakkapel op de hoger opgetrokken ingangspartij een segmentboogvormig fronton heeft ter beëindiging. Op het tentdak een achthoekige lantaarn met peer met daarboven een loden bekroning in de vorm van een bol met windwijzer.
Linker zijgevel vormgegeven als trapgevel.

Voormalige bibliotheek van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf voorbeeld van Hollandse neo-renaissance en als onderdeel van het oeuvre van architect J. Stuivinga. Tevens van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als vroeg voorbeeld van een openbare leeszaal.

Elongated rectangular, fully cellaraged former LIBRARY of two storeys and tiled gabled roof with hipped section right parallel to the street. Nine-bay-wide front facade, constructed entirely in brick on a combined hardstone and sandstone plinth. To the right of centre two bays are executed as a tower of three storeys with tent roof. The entrance is located in this section, executed with hardstone and sandstone surround with wooden door inscribed on the door panel "Openbare Leeszaal". To the left of the main entrance a smaller wooden door wholly incorporated in the natural stone plinth leading to the basement, likewise with round arch. To the right of the entrance basket-arch basement windows with security bars, to the left all basement windows rectangular, likewise with security bars. First storey with wooden cross windows, entirely with leaded glass panes and basket-arch termination. Second storey likewise wooden cross windows with leaded glass panes, this time closed off with transoms. To the left above the entrance a large composite window with its upper part executed as a two-light with mullion. To the right above the door a projecting bay window.
Round all windows for decoration natural stone blocks, furthermore the facade is decorated with mouldings and ornamental wall anchors. Facade termination with interrupted cornice on corbels, above which small roof dormers in style, with the roof dormer on the higher executed entrance section having a segmental arch pediment as termination. On the tent roof an octagonal lantern with pear with above it a lead covering in the form of a sphere with weathervane.
Left side facade designed as a stepped gable.

Former library of general importance because of its architectural-historical value as an intact example of Dutch neo-renaissance and as part of the oeuvre of architect J. Stuivinga. Also of general importance because of its cultural-historical value as an early example of a public reading room.
