Inleiding
Dubbel WOONHUIS, gebouwd omstreeks 1920 in de stijl van het Expressionisme naar een ontwerp van Arjan Goodijk. Het pand is gelegen aan de noordzijde van de Stationsstraat, een deftige straat die de stad verbindt met het station en die sinds de aanleg van de spoorlijn in 1883 tot ontwikkeling is gekomen. Inwendig bezit met name nr. 9 waardevolle interieuronderdelen, waaronder glas-in-lood ramen afkomstig uit het atelier W. Bogtman.
Omschrijving
Fors rechthoekig blok met ingesneden hoeken, opgetrokken in donkerrode baksteen en gedekt door een schilddak met grijze verbeterde Hollandse pannen; forse bakgoot met overstek en decoratieve rand van metselwerk. Erkers op de hoeken aan voor- en zijgevel; uitbouw (berging annex bijkeuken) aan achterzijde. Voorgevel. Centraal in de voorgevel de entrees tot beide woningen, elk in portiek en met hardstenen stoep. Boven elke portiek een bovenlicht, omlijst door driehoekig siermetselwerk, aan de bovenzijde afgewerkt met gedecoreerde loodslab; daarboven een venster met afgeschuinde hoeken; in het dakvlak een dubbele houten dakkapel. Links en rechts van de entrees op de begane grond en op de verdieping, driedelige vensters met bovenlichten; in de hoekerker op de begane grond en op de verdieping, gekoppelde vensters met bovenlichten. Zijgevels: op de begane grond openslaande deuren met zij- en bovenlichten, grenzend aan een verhoogd, ommuurd terras met een gemetselde trap naar de tuin; hierboven op de verdieping een dubbel venster met bovenlicht; in de hoekerker aan de achterzijde op de begane grond en op de verdieping drie vensters met bovenlichten. Achtergevel: op de begane grond drie vensters; op de erfscheiding de aangebouwde berging met toegang; dakterras met gemetselde borstwering. Op de verdieping twee hoge vensters ter hoogte van het trapbordes en een deur naar het dakterras. In het dakvlak twee houten dakkapellen. INTERIEUR. Van de beide woonhuizen is het interieur van nr. 9 het meest gaaf bewaard gebleven. Daarin onder meer: in de hal een tegellambrizering, groen met zwart; granieten vloer; doorgang met keperboog; originele deuren en binnenkozijnen met lijstwerk; plafonds met getrapte lijst; schuifdeuren; glas-in-lood bovenlichten; in de vensters van het trapbordes is de afbeelding van een zeilschip. In het minder gaaf bewaarde interieur van nr. 11 zijn onder meer nog van belang de tegellambrizering in de hal en enig glas-in-loodwerk.

Stout rectangular block with indented corners, constructed in dark red brick and covered by a hipped roof with grey improved Dutch tiles; substantial roof gutter with overhang and decorative masonry band. Corner turrets on the front and side elevations; an extension (storage annex scullery) on the rear elevation. Front elevation. Centrally in the front elevation the entrances to both dwellings, each in a porch and with stone step. Above each porch a fanlight, framed by triangular decorative brickwork, finished at the top with decorated lead slab; above this a window with bevelled corners; in the roof plane a double wooden roof dormer. To the left and right of the entrances on the ground floor and on the first floor, three-part windows with fanlights; in the corner turret on the ground floor and on the first floor, coupled windows with fanlights. Side elevations: on the ground floor doors opening onto a threshold with side and top lights, adjoining a raised, walled terrace with a brick staircase to the garden; above this on the first floor a double window with fanlight; in the corner turret on the rear on the ground floor and on the first floor three windows with fanlights. Rear elevation: on the ground floor three windows; at the boundary of the property the attached storage with access; roof terrace with brick parapet. On the first floor two tall windows at the height of the landing and a door to the roof terrace. In the roof plane two wooden roof dormers. INTERIOR. Of the two dwelling houses, the interior of no. 9 has remained the most intact. Within it among others: in the hall a tile wainscot, green with black; granite floor; passage with herringbone vault; original doors and internal frames with mouldings; ceilings with stepped moulding; sliding doors; stained-glass fanlights; in the windows of the stair landing the representation of a sailing ship. In the less well-preserved interior of no. 11, of particular importance are the tile wainscot in the hall and some stained-glasswork.
