Inleiding
Het 'kleine' WEESHUIS is gebouwd in 1914 naar een ontwerp in Overgangsstijl van G. Stapenséa in opdracht van de voogden van het Old Burger Weeshuis omdat het oude weeshuis, het Cruijcebroederhof, te groot geworden was. De fraaie keramische gevelstenen en decoraties, van de hand van W.C. Brouwer, zijn geel, groen en blauw geglazuurd. In het pand was gedurende enkele jaren de politie gehuisvest en tegenwoordig biedt het onderdak aan het bureau voor rechtshulp en het arbeidsbureau. Ondanks de verandering tot kantoor heeft het pand weinig wijzigingen ondergaan. Vele originele interieur-elementen zijn door verlaagde plafonds etc. aan het oog onttrokken, maar nog wel aanwezig.
Omschrijving
Het pand is opgetrokken in donkerrode baksteen op een hardstenen plint onder een samengesteld dak gedekt met een zwarte Hollandse pan, een eenvoudige bakgoot met een gemetselde lijst, voorzien van keramische consoles die bij de topgevel-delen doorlopen. Op het dak staan twee schoorstenen die zijn voorzien van een keramische decoratie. Alle vensters in de gevel hebben een eensteens strek en een hardstenen lekdorpel met neuten.
De voorgevel aan de Kruizebroederstraat (noord): Rechts een topgevel met op de begane grond en verdieping ieder twee vensters met bovenlicht; onder de nok drie vensters met hieronder een keramische gevelsteen met de aanduiding O.B.W. en hierboven een rond venster met een keramische leksteen. Links centraal de hoofd-entree in een portiek, onder een gemetselde boog met keramische rand en aan weerszijden een dubbel venster; in de portiek met hardstenen stoep een keramische brievenbus; ter hoogte van de verdiepingsvloer twee keramische gevelstenen met als thema 'beschutting', links van de ingang met vogels onder een paddestoel en de aanduiding ANNO en rechts met kuikens onder kippen en de aanduiding 1914; op de verdieping drie vensters met bovenlicht.
De Westelijke zijgevel: Centraal een topgevel met op de begane grond en onder de nok twee vierkante vensters; op de verdieping twee vensters met bovenlicht; in de links gelegen flank op de begane grond een venster met bovenlicht en ter hoogte van de verdieping een keramische gevelsteen. Links op de begane grond een erker; op de verdieping twee vensters met bovenlicht. Rechts op de begane grond en verdieping een venster met bovenlicht.
Tegen de Oostzijde is het buurpand geplaatst. In het westelijk dakvlak een hoge gemetselde ongedecoreerde schoorsteen.
De achtergevel: Begane grond, links een pui met drie vensters en bovenlichten; vier vensters met bovenlicht, waarvan het uiterst rechtse venster is dichtgemetseld; hiertussen een toegang onder gemetselde segmentboog; boven de deur een venster met op de punten keramische decoraties. De verdieping, met identieke pui en vier vensters met bovenlicht. Ter hoogte van de verdiepingsvloer tussen de twee puien zijn keramische gevelstenen aangebracht. In het dakvlak zijn bij het verkrijgen van de kantoorfunctie twee dakkapellen en tegen de gevel een stalen vluchttrap aangebracht. De twee puien zijn eveneens latere mutaties.
In de hal op de begane grond en de verdieping is het oorspronkelijke INTERIEUR zichtbaar. Een groene tegellambrizering voorzien van bruine tegelrand met zwarte figuratie; een houten monumentale trap; tegelvloer op de begane grond; een plafond met moerbalken en kinderbinten dat oogt als een cassettenplafond; de algemene doorgangen hebben een gestucte boogconstructie; nagenoeg alle kozijnen en deuren zijn origineel.

The 'small' ORPHANAGE was built in 1914 to a design in Transitional style by G. Stapenséa on the instructions of the guardians of the Old Burger Orphanage because the old orphanage, the Cruijcebroederhof, had become too large. The Western side facade: Centrally a stepped gable with two square windows each on the ground floor and below the ridge; on the first floor two windows with fanlight; in the left flank on the ground floor a window with fanlight and at the level of the first floor a ceramic facade stone. The first floor, with identical shopfront and four windows with fanlight. At the level of the floor of the first storey between the two shopfronts ceramic facade stones have been installed. In the roof plane two roof dormers and against the facade a steel emergency staircase have been installed upon acquisition of the office function. The two shopfronts are also later alterations.
In the hall on the ground floor and the first floor the original INTERIOR is visible.
