The register's description

Omschrijving:

Waardering:

Description:

Detached villa on an approximately rectangular ground plan, built in red brick with natural stone ornamental details, comprising a basement, piano nobile, first floor and attic storey, with hipped roof of slate tiles. Rectangular wooden cross windows with fanlights with glazing bars. In the basement smaller rectangular T-windows with heavy natural stone framing the top of which runs completely around the building. Between the basement and the piano nobile a natural stone string course. The façade surfaces are enlivened by relief brickwork. The southern (front) façade, 9 window bays wide, is entirely symmetrical, with corner projections and a central monumental natural stone flight of steps leading to the piano nobile. The projections have three-sided bay windows up to the second floor, where they form balconies. The corner projections are crowned with simple pediments, provided with rose windows and along the upper edges white stones suggesting a dentil course. Balconies, landings and stairs have natural stone balusters. On the axis above the stairs and entrance there is a roof dormer crowned by a segmental pediment. On the roof two projecting chimneys with decorative wrought-iron crowning. The northern (rear) façade also has a three-part division, this time with a taller central projection in which the stairwell is situated. Characteristic here are three vertically continuous window strips with fine glazing bars from the piano nobile to and including the attic storey. On either side of the central projection at basement level two windows and a door. At the level of the piano nobile and first floor (originally) on either side of the central projection two windows each. (The situation has been altered by the installation of fire escapes.) At the level of the attic storey both left and right a segmental roof dormer. The eastern façade contains the main entrance. This façade too, three window bays wide, is symmetrically arranged with in the middle a stately entrance arrangement with natural stone framing at the level of the piano nobile, reached via a natural stone flight of steps narrowing towards the entrance. The entrance contains a double wooden door with windows with decorative iron grillwork and a semicircular stained-glass fanlight. Above the entrance the central projection is extended to the attic storey and is crowned there with a segmental pediment. The monumental staircase is flanked on the piano nobile by three-sided landings with natural stone balustrades.

The central projection is flanked on the roof by small segmental roof windows. The western façade is designed in accordance with the eastern façade, but without entrance arrangement and landings. In the basement three double windows. The interior was renovated in 1983 and 1993/1994. Original are still the marble dado panelling of the entrance, the monumental staircase of oak wood with rosewood details and the corresponding dado panellings in the central stairwell.

Assessment:

Stately villa in Neo-Historicist style of general importance on account of its architectural-historical, cultural-historical and urban planning value.
