Inleiding:
STOOMGEMAAL met WOONHUIS/KANTOOR in neo-Renaissancestijl, gelegen aan de Westersingel. Gebouwd in 1891 naar ontwerp van de directeur gemeentewerken G.J. de Jongh in het kader van W.N. Roses en J.A. Scholtens "Waterproject" van 1854. Tot 1859 stond op deze plek een Fijnje-pomp. In 1923 werd het stoomgemaal omgebouwd tot elektrisch gemaal.
Omschrijving:
Stoomgemaal annex woonhuis/kantoor met een T-vormige plattegrond, waarbij het woonhuis/kantoor zich bevindt in het bouwvolume van twee bouwlagen en een kapverdieping aan de straatzijde, en het gemaal in een lagere aanbouw (één bouwlaag met kapverdieping) aan de achterzijde is ondergebracht. Het geheel is opgetrokken in rode baksteen, gemetseld in staand verband, boven een natuurstenen plint.
Natuurstenen detailleringen in de vorm van cordonlijsten, hoekvertandingen en sluitstenen. De zadeldaken zijn met leien gedekt. Schuifvensters met houten kozijnen, op de begane grond aan de voorgevel onder rondboog, de overige zijn getoogd. De voorgevel, aan de Westersingel, heeft een middenrisaliet die rijker gedetailleerd is door middel van natuurstenen hoekvertandingen. Hier bevindt zich op de begane grond de ingang: een dubbele houten deur met getoogd bovenlicht.
Op de eerste verdieping een tweelichtvenster met houten deelzuiltje en in de topgevel een enkel venster. De top wordt bekroond met een aedicula en windvaan. In de gevelvlakken aan weerszijden van de middenrisaliet per verdieping twee vensters waarbij de onderste rondboogvormig en de bovenste recht afgesloten worden. Op het zadeldak links en rechts een dakkapelletje met tentdakjes met piron. De tuitvormige zijgevels zijn vrijwel blind, met een dubbel venster in de van consoles voorziene top. De linker zijgevel bevat voorts een zij-ingang en bovendien is aan de voorzijde een tuinmuur met deur en hoekpijler aangebouwd. In de toegangshal bevinden zich nog de oorspronkelijke lambrizeringen in neo-Renaissancestijl. In de machinehal gedecoreerde gietijzeren kolommen en ijzeren kapspanten.

Stoomgemaal annex woonhuis/kantoor in neo-Renaissancetrant aan de Westersingel, deel uitmakend van W.N. Roses en J.A. Scholtens "Waterproject". Als zodanig van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde, alsook uit stedenbouwkundig en typologisch oogpunt.

Until 1859 a Fijnje pump stood on this site. In 1923 the steam pump station was converted to an electric pump station.
Description:
Steam pump station adjoining dwelling house/office with a T-shaped floor plan, whereby the dwelling house/office is located in the building volume of two storeys and an attic storey on the street side, and the pump station is housed in a lower extension (one storey with attic storey) on the rear side. The whole is built in red brick, laid in running bond, above a natural stone plinth.
Natural stone detailing in the form of cordon mouldings, corner toothing and voussoirs. The gabled roofs are covered with slates. Sash windows with wooden frames, on the ground floor of the front facade under semicircular arch, the others are arched. The front facade, on the Westersingel, has a central risalit which is enriched in detail by means of natural stone corner toothing. Here on the ground floor is the entrance: a double wooden door with an arched fanlight.
On the first floor a two-light window with wooden mullion and in the pediment a single window. The top is crowned with an aedicula and weathervane. In the facade sections on either side of the central risalit per floor two windows whereby the lower are semicircular-arched and the upper straight-topped. On the gabled roof left and right a small roof dormer with tent roofs with piron. The spout-shaped side facades are virtually blank, with a double window in the top provided with consoles. The left side facade also contains a side entrance and moreover a garden wall with door and corner pier has been built on to the front. In the entrance hall the original neo-Renaissance style wainscoting is still present. In the machine hall decorated cast-iron columns and iron roof truss structures.
Valuation:
Steam pump station adjoining dwelling house/office in neo-Renaissance manner on the Westersingel, forming part of W.N. Rose's and J.A. Scholten's "Water Project". As such of general importance because of its architectural and cultural-historical value, as well as from an urban planning and typological point of view.
