Inleiding
Samengesteld pand bestaande uit een 17de-eeuws voormalig WOONHUIS met BEDRIJFSPAND uit 1871 en bijbehorende WAGENPOORT in neo-Hollandse Renaissancestijl, oorspronkelijk behorend tot het complex van drukkerij Enschedé, die hier van 1761 tot 1993 was gevestigd. De wagenpoort stond aanvankelijk naast het pand met tuitgevel maar is bij de bouw van het bedrijfspand in 1871 naar de huidige locatie verplaatst. In de poort bevindt zich een gedenksteen naar ontwerp van J.A.G. v.d. Steur, uitgevoerd door beeldhouwer G. Veldheer. Het samengestelde pand met bijbehorende wagenpoort vormt als restant van het Enschedécomplex onderdeel van de gesloten gevelwand van het Klokhuisplein.
Omschrijving
Het voormalige 17de-eeuwse woonhuis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt twee bouwlagen onder een zadeldak dat haaks op het Klokhuisplein is geprojecteerd. De voorgevel is opgetrokken in bruine baksteen met speklagen en eindigt in een tuitgevel met zandstenen frontonbekroning. Beganegronds twee vensters en een deur en op de verdieping twee vensters onder korfbogen. In de geveltop een kleiner zoldervenster onder korfboog. Het bedrijfspand uit 1871 telt twee bouwlagen onder een met pannen gedekt schilddak waarvan de noklijn evenwijdig aan het Klokhuisplein ligt. De voorgevel is opgetrokken in bruine baksteen met natuurstenen speklagen en sierstenen en bevat zes vensterassen waarvan de buitenste twee iets risaleren. Beganegronds vijf vensters met kruiskozijn onder strekken en uiterst rechts een dubbele deur onder bovenlicht. Op de verdieping zes zesruitsvensters onder korfbogen. In de rechter zijgevel beganegronds één en op de verdieping twee vensters. Rondom een geprofileerde gootlijst op klossen voorzien van leeuwenkoppen. In het midden van de gevel een dakkapel met afgeknot topgeveltje bekroond door een klein fronton. Naast het bedrijfspand staat de wagenpoort met frontonbekroning en korfboogvormige doorgang. De poort is voorzien van natuurstenen sierbanden en bovenop twee sierbollen.

Het 17de-eeuwse voormalige woonhuis met bedrijfspand uit 1871 en bijbehorende wagenpoort is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als voormalige onderdelen van het Enschedécomplex in de gevelwand van het Klokhuisplein.

Composite property consisting of a 17th-century former DWELLING HOUSE with BUSINESS PREMISES from 1871 and associated CARRIAGE GATE in Neo-Dutch Renaissance style, originally belonging to the complex of Enschedé printing works, which was established here from 1761 to 1993. The carriage gate initially stood beside the property with spout gable but was relocated to its current location during the construction of the business premises in 1871. Within the gate is a commemorative stone designed by J.A.G. v.d. Steur, executed by sculptor G. Veldheer. The composite property with associated carriage gate, as a remnant of the Enschedé complex, forms part of the closed facade wall of Klokhuisplein.
Description
The former 17th-century dwelling house has a rectangular floor plan and comprises two storeys beneath a gabled roof which projects perpendicular to Klokhuisplein. The front facade is constructed in brown brick with stone courses and terminates in a spout gable with sandstone pediment coping. On the ground floor two windows and a door, and on the first floor two windows beneath basket-arch lintels. In the gable top a smaller attic window beneath basket-arch lintel. The business premises from 1871 comprises two storeys beneath a pantile-covered hipped roof whose ridge line runs parallel to Klokhuisplein. The front facade is constructed in brown brick with natural stone courses and decorative stone, and contains six window bays, the two outer ones projecting slightly. On the ground floor five windows with cross windows beneath stone lintels and at the far right a double door beneath fanlight. On the first floor six six-pane windows beneath basket-arch lintels. In the right side facade ground floor one and on the first floor two windows. Throughout a profiled drip moulding on corbels furnished with lion heads. In the centre of the facade a dormer window with truncated gable-topped roof crowned by a small pediment. Beside the business premises stands the carriage gate with pediment coping and basket-arch-shaped passage. The gate is furnished with natural stone ornamental bands and two ornamental spheres on top.
Valuation
The 17th-century former dwelling house with business premises from 1871 and associated carriage gate is of general importance on grounds of cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as former components of the Enschedé complex within the facade wall of Klokhuisplein.
