Omschrijving
Op rechthoekig grondplan in overgangsarchitectuur gebouwde DIRECTEURSWONING bestaande uit twee bouwlagen en kapverdieping onder zadeldak met zwarte Hollandse pan. Het zadeldak is overstekend en aan de voorzijde (N-W) in de top en aan de bases van de windveren voorzien van verticaal sierbeschot dat aan de bases van de windveren rust op drie houten consoles waarvan er twee paarsgewijs zijn geplaatst. De gootlijsten aan beide lange zijden rusten ook op paarsgewijs geplaatste houten consoles. Het muurwerk is boven een hardstenen plint opgetrokken in rode baksteen die de hardstenen onderdorpels van de vensters ter decoratie als bloktand verbindt. Deze bloktand bevindt zich steeds tussen banddecoratie in rode verblendsteen. Deze verblendsteen is ook verwerkt in de ontlastingsbogen die een zandstenen sluitsteen hebben. De spaarvelden onder de ontlastingsbogen bestaan uit een zandstenen plaat.
Zowel de korte kopgevels als de lange zijgevel aan de duidwestzijde hebben twee vensterassen met zesruits-schuifvensters. De noordelijke zijgevel heeft naast de aansluiting van de overdekte passage twee kleine vensteropeningen boven elkaar met daarin vaste ramen. In de beide geveltoppen bevinden zich getoogde zesruits-schuifvensters. De buitenmuur die de verbinding vormt met het administratiegebouw sluit aan op de noordelijke hoek van de directeurswoning en bestaat uit rode baksteen die onder de hardstenen afsluiting is gedecoreerd met een bloktand.
Waardering
De uit 1899-1901 daterende directeurswoning is van algemeen belang uit cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het Haarlemse gevangeniscomplex, waarbinnen het als beeldbepalend onderdeel van de bebouwing aan de pleinzijde ook een belangrijke ensemblewaarde vertegenwoordigt.

Description
DIRECTOR'S HOUSE built on a rectangular ground plan in transitional architecture consisting of two storeys and an attic storey under a saddle roof with black Dutch pantiles. The saddle roof is overhanging and on the front (N-W) at the apex and at the bases of the gable ends is provided with vertical ornamental boarding that at the bases of the gable ends rests on three wooden consoles of which two are placed in pairs. The gutters on both long sides also rest on wooden consoles placed in pairs. The brickwork is built above a hardstone plinth in red brick which decoratively connects the hardstone sills of the windows as a toothed pattern. This toothed pattern is always between band decoration in red facing brick. This facing brick is also used in the relieving arches which have a sandstone keystone. The spandrels under the relieving arches consist of a sandstone plate.
Both the short end gables and the long side gable on the south-west side have two window axes with six-pane sash windows. The northern side gable has besides the connection of the covered passage two small window openings one above the other with fixed frames within. In both gable tops are arched six-pane sash windows. The outer wall which forms the connection with the administration building adjoins the northern corner of the director's house and consists of red brick which under the hardstone capping is decorated with a toothed pattern.
Valuation
The director's house dating from 1899-1901 is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as a historical-functional component of the Haarlem prison complex, within which it as a visually defining component of the building facing the square also represents important ensemble value.
