Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The STELP, now a residential farmhouse, with a partially built-in small cattle shed lies on a generously moated plot with on the corners thereof on the front side beech trees and on the remaining sides single rows of oak trees. The farmhouse was built in the last quarter of the 19th century. In the articulation and detailing of the front house elements referring to classicism are applied. The farmhouse belongs to the property of the Van Harinxma family at Beetsterzwaag and has been recently renovated. In the surroundings several farmhouses of the same type are identifiable. The attached tank building falls outside the protection by national government.
Description
The farmhouse has roughly a rectangular ground plan with on the west side a double crack and a partially built-in small cattle shed and on the north side a later built former tank building: each under its own roof. The main volume consists of a front house and barn under a hipped roof. The front house is built in brown brick, on a foundation course of clinker bricks finished with a roll course; only at the living room section is the foundation course a half brick projecting forward as a plinth. The barn section is built in yellow brick, on a foundation course of clinker bricks finished with a roll course. The roof section of the front house is covered with black glazed Dutch tiles with on the ridge corner a chimney with a compressed flue opening; the barn section is thatched with reed. The barn has no gutter, the front house has a rainwater gutter on wooden blocks. The south gable of the farmhouse has a central risalite and corner pilasters. Per bay two arched (pseudo-)openings under stretcher course are placed in the gable wall; in the right bay the six-light windows are replaced by a storage space with an arched storage cellar window below and a stable door. Next to the right corner pilaster the eastern roof slope is extended: the gable contains wattlework finished with a roll course with a natural stone bond stone and a window. The gable of the front house is finished with a cornice. In the middle of the roof slope is a brick cabin under a flat roof; its front gable is enlivened by pilasters with plastered base and coping, dentil course and tympanum with plastered framing upon which an iron coping. The western side gable of the front house has an arched six-light window. The crack wall is finished with wattlework under a roll course with a natural stone bond stone. In the western side gable of the kitchen section is the side entrance and a reduced kitchen window; the crack wall is built in brown brick. The western gable of the business section has two windows and a double wooden door. The northern gable of the barn has a high double entrance door which is characteristic of a livestock enterprise; in the rear gable two (originally four) arched iron three-light cow windows. The eastern side gable has 15 arched iron cow windows with latticework on the inside. The partially built-in small cattle shed on the north-west side is built in yellow brick on a clinker brick plinth, finished with a roll course. The shed is under a half-hipped roof thatched with reed and upon which two owl boards of the Frisian Wouden type. In the valley gutter between barn and ancillary shed some courses of the roof slopes are covered with black glazed roof tiles. The rear gable of the ancillary shed is parallel to the inset double barn doors. The south gable and west gable each comprise three arched iron cow windows; in the north gable is a double stable door with three-light fanlight, a window, a stable door with two-light fanlight and a second window.
