Omschrijving
ARBORETUM aangelegd op het terrein rondom villa Ruimzicht. Het Arboretum is waarschijnlijk aangelegd na 1868, de datum van aankoop van de villa met bijbehorende grond door ds. van Dijk. Het is zeer waarschijnlijk dat dominee van Dijk zich intensief met de aanleg van de tuin heeft bezig gehouden. Het is niet bekend of er eventueel nog een tuin- of landschapsarchitect bij betrokken is geweest en ontwerptekeningen zijn evenmin beschikbaar. Er wordt vanuit gegaan dat het educatieve aspect een belangrijke rol heeft gespeeld bij de aanleg van de tuin. Waarschijnlijk is die aanname gebaseerd op het grote aantal boomsoorten die zich hier bevinden. Het arboretum omvat ongeveer 50 verschillende boomsoorten uit zowel binnen- als buitenland. Enkele bomen zijn reeds 100 jaar oud. De Honingboom (Sophora japonica), de Moeraseik (Quercus palustris) en de Witte treurmoerbei (Morus alba `Pendula') worden in de Gids voor de Nederlandse tuin- en landschapsarchitectuur aangemerkt als bijzondere bomen.
De elementen die het meest bepalend zijn voor het karakter van de tuin zijn de landschappelijk aangelegde vijver, de grote diversiteit aan boomsoorten en de situering van de villa precies op het midden van het terrein. Het padenstelsel is eenvoudig. Parallel aan de noordoostgrens van het terrein loopt een pad vanuit de zuidoosthoek naar de theekoepel in de noordwesthoek. Dit pad is gedeeltelijk aan weerskanten voorzien van een rij cypressen. Van hier uit lopen enkele zijpaden naar het huis dat in het midden van de tuin gesitueerd is. De afbeelding van de Parkaanleg van Ruimzicht, afgebeeld in het boek 'n Moment voor een Monument' dat is uitgegeven door de Oudheidkundige Kring Deutekom van Doetinchem (1984), geeft een uitgebreider padenstelsel weer. Op deze afbeelding lopen er ook paden over de voorzijde van het terrein. Deze paden zijn nu allemaal verdwenen.
De landschappelijke vijver is gesitueerd aan de voorzijde, ten westen van het huis. De meeste planten aan deze zijde zijn laag waardoor het huis van hieruit goed zichtbaar is. Centraal voor het huis bevindt zich een ronde, stenen vijver. Rondom omgeven door enkele rond gesnoeide struiken.
Naast het educatieve aspect kan het arboretum ook worden gezien ter ondersteuning van de architectuur.

ARBORETUM laid out on the grounds surrounding villa Ruimzicht. The Arboretum was probably laid out after 1868, the date of purchase of the villa with its associated grounds by Rev. van Dijk. It is very probable that Reverend van Dijk was intensively involved in the laying out of the garden. It is not known whether a garden or landscape architect may possibly have been involved and design drawings are likewise unavailable. It is assumed that the educational aspect played an important role in the laying out of the garden. This assumption is probably based on the large number of tree species present here. The arboretum comprises approximately 50 different tree species from both domestic and foreign countries. Some trees are already 100 years old. The Honey Locust (Sophora japonica), the Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) and the White Weeping Mulberry (Morus alba `Pendula') are marked in the Guide to Dutch garden and landscape architecture as remarkable trees.
The elements which are most characteristic of the garden's character are the landscaped pond, the great diversity of tree species and the situation of the villa precisely in the middle of the grounds. The path system is simple. Parallel to the northeast boundary of the grounds runs a path from the southeast corner to the tea pavilion in the northwest corner. This path is partially provided on either side with a row of cypresses. From here several side paths lead to the house which is situated in the middle of the garden. The image of the Park Layout of Ruimzicht, depicted in the book 'A Moment for a Monument' which was published by the Oudheidkundige Kring Deutekom of Doetinchem (1984), shows a more extensive path system. In this image paths also run across the front of the grounds. These paths have now all disappeared.
The landscaped pond is situated at the front, to the west of the house. Most of the plants on this side are low so that the house is clearly visible from here. Centrally in front of the house there is a round, stone pond. Surrounded all around by some round-clipped shrubs.
