Inleiding
De SOCIETEIT De Doele, gelegen aan de Nieuwmarkt te Bolsward, is gebouwd in 1867 in een eclectische vormentaal. Het gebouw staat op de plaats van het in 1867 afgebrande logement De Doele. Door de vele markten die vanaf de middeleeuwen op de Nieuwmarkt werden gehouden nam de sociëteit van oudsher een belangrijke plaats in het Bolswarder handelsleven in. Het gedeeltelijk onderkelderde gebouw is in de loop der tijden aanzienlijk verbouwd en uitgebreid zodat de bescherming zich uitsluitend op de karakteristieke voorgevel richt. De overige gevels en het interieur zijn van ondergeschikt belang, met uitzondering van de HAL met monumentale trappartij.
Omschrijving
De zes traveeën brede bepleisterde voorgevel, onder afgeknot schilddak, omvat twee bouwlagen die van elkaar worden gescheiden door een geprofileerde architraaf met waterlijst. Onder langs de dakrand loopt een forse gootlijst met het opschrift "ANNO SOCIETEIT DE DOELE 1867". De hoeken worden benadrukt door pilasters. De begane grond wordt ingedeeld door een hoofdingang (met niet oorspronkelijke luifel) met aan weerszijden twee, respectievelijk drie rondboogvensters met vierruits onder- en drieruits bovenlichten. De vensters worden van elkaar gescheiden door slanke pilasters met composietkapiteel. In de zwikken zijn decoraties aangebracht.

Introduction
The SOCIETY De Doele, located at the Nieuwmarkt at Bolsward, was built in 1867 in an eclectic formal language. The building stands on the site of the inn De Doele which burned down in 1867.
