Inleiding
Het WINKELWOONHUIS ligt aan de zuidzijde van de Jongemastraat, binnen het beschermd stadsgezicht en is naar het noorden gericht. Het blokvormige gebouw ligt op een smal, rechthoekig perceel en grenst met de zijgevels aan de belendende panden. De voorgevel ligt op de rooilijn van de straatwand. Het winkelwoonhuis is in 1889 in de stijl van de neo-renaissance gebouwd, waarbij ook elementen zijn toegepast van het neo-classicisme. Architect en opdrachtgever zijn onbekend: in de achtergevel is een kleine gevelsteen ingemetseld, waarop alléén het bouwjaar leesbaar is. De in de achtertuin gelegen aan het huis vastgebouwde schuur komt wegens te geringe waarde niet in aanmerking voor bescherming van rijkswege.
Omschrijving
Het twee bouwlagen tellende winkelwoonhuis is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een schilddak met schoorsteen. Het dak is gedekt met zwarte, geglazuurde (boven de voorgevel) en rode ongeglazuurde Friese golfpannen. De voorgevel is uit bruine baksteen opgetrokken, de achtergevel en de zijgevels uit gele baksteen. De houten winkelpui staat op een natuurstenen plint met geschilderd vlakken-motief met geometrische figuren. De winkelpui wordt aan weerszijden begrensd door twee pilasters met basement en decoratieve krans motieven die een puibalk met hoofdgestel ondersteunen. Twee houten deuren met twee natuurstenen treden, links en rechts van de grote winkelruit, geven toegang tot het woonhuis en de winkel. Boven de deuren en de grote winkelruit zijn vijf zesruits bovenlichten van matglas aangebracht die onderling door houten colonnetten worden gescheiden. Boven de puibalk een gemetselde band met vier basement-achtige elementen die de vier geblokte pilasters in de tweede bouwlaag ondersteunen. Hiertussen zitten drie zesruits-vensters met geblokte segmentboog met sluitsteen en gebeeldhouwde kopjes in de trommelvelden. De voorgevel wordt bekroond door een hoog, rijk geprofileerd en versierd hoofdgestel met kapitelen boven de pilasters. De zijgevels zijn blind. In de achtergevel zitten in de eerste bouwlaag een houten deur en twee zesruits-vensters en in de tweede bouwlaag drie zesruits-vensters.
De indeling van het INTERIEUR is grotendeels gewijzigd: aan de straatzijde, is de oorspronkelijke winkelruimte nog aanwezig. In de winkelruimte is, achter het verlaagde plafond, het originele plafond met gesjabloneerde motieven gedeeltelijk nog aanwezig.
Waardering
Het winkelwoonhuis aan de Jongemastraat te Bolsward is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch en architectuurhistorisch belang:

The SHOP-DWELLING lies on the southern side of the Jongemastraat, within the protected townscape and faces north. The block-shaped building lies on a narrow, rectangular plot and adjoins the neighbouring buildings with its side facades. The front facade lies on the building line of the street wall. The shop-dwelling was built in 1889 in the style of neo-renaissance, with elements also applied from neo-classicism. Architect and client are unknown: in the rear facade a small stone tablet is embedded, on which only the construction year is legible. The shed attached to the house, located in the rear garden, does not qualify for protection by the state due to insufficient significance.
Description
The two-storey shop-dwelling is constructed on a rectangular ground plan and is covered by a hipped roof with chimney. The roof is covered with black, glazed (above the front facade) and red unglazed Frisian wave tiles. The front facade is constructed from brown brickwork, the rear facade and side facades from yellow brickwork. The wooden shop front stands on a natural stone plinth with painted plane motifs with geometric figures. The shop front is bounded on both sides by two pilasters with basement and decorative garland motifs that support a shop beam with principal molding. Two wooden doors with two natural stone steps, left and right of the large shop window, provide access to the residence and the shop. Above the doors and the large shop window five six-pane fanlights of frosted glass are installed, separated from each other by wooden colonettes. Above the shop beam a masonry band with four basement-like elements that support the four blocked pilasters in the second storey. Between these are three six-pane windows with blocked segmental arch with keystone and sculptured heads in the drum fields. The front facade is crowned by a tall, richly profiled and ornamented principal molding with capitals above the pilasters. The side facades are blind. In the rear facade in the first storey are a wooden door and two six-pane windows and in the second storey three six-pane windows.
The layout of the INTERIOR has been largely altered: on the street side, the original shop space is still present. In the shop space, behind the lowered ceiling, the original ceiling with stencilled motifs is partially still present.
