Inleiding
De voormalige NAAISCHOOL te Bolsward is in 1877 gebouwd in traditionele stijl, waarbij neo-classicistische elementen zijn toegepast. De bouw is opgedragen door de gasthuisvoogden van het Sint Anthonygasthuis, die al vanaf de 17de eeuw een grote rol hebben gespeeld in het maatschappelijk leven van Bolsward. Het voormalige schoolgebouw ligt binnen het beschermde stadsgezicht, aan de noordzijde van de hoofdstraat, de Jongemastraat en is met de lange voorgevel naar het zuiden georinteerd. Het gebouw bood oorspronkelijk plaats aan een schoollokaal (links) en de woning van de directrice (rechts). Thans is het linker gedeelte, na verbouwing, in gebruik als kantoorruimte van de gemeente; het rechtergedeelte, dat qua indeling en inrichting gedeeltelijk origineel is, heeft nog steeds een woonfunctie. Het woongedeelte is echter uitgebreid door dit aan de achterzijde door een gang te verbinden met een klein huis aan de noordzijde van het perceel. Deze uitbreiding alsook het interieur van het huidige kantoorgedeelte vallen buiten de bescherming. De bescherming richt zich dus op de voormalige Naaischool en delen van het interieur.
Omschrijving
De voormalige Naaischool op rechthoekige plattegrond is opgetrokken uit bruine baksteen op een natuurstenen plint en wordt gedekt door een schilddak met zwarte geglazuurde Hollandse pannen en twee hoekschoorstenen met dekplaten. De indeling van de voorgevel correspondeert met de oorspronkelijke interieur indeling: een lange gang met links daarvan het vier traveeën brede schoollokaal en rechts de twee traveeën brede woning. De door een kroonlijst afgesloten voorgevel wordt asymmetrisch verdeeld door een even uitspringend middenrisaliet met afgeronde hoeken en natuurstenen lekdorpels. De monumentale toegangspartij wordt gevormd door dubbele paneeldeuren met gietijzeren roosters en bovenlicht met afgeronde hoeken, die zijn gevat in een aedicula met composietkapitelen; in het driehoekige fronton is het jaartal 1877 aangebracht. De zijgevels zijn blind. Het nog zichtbare gedeelte van de achtergevel heeft vier zesruitsvensters met afgeronde hoeken en natuurstenen lekdorpels. Het INTERIEUR is gedeeltelijk nog oorspronkelijk. De eerste kamer rechts van de gang is de meest gave en heeft nog een aantal originele elementen. Onder meer de houten vensterbanken en vouwblinden met panelen, het balkenplafond en de mooi gedecoreerde marmeren schouw. Het rechtergedeelte van de bedstedenwand met paneeldeuren is verwijderd ten behoeve van de doorgang naar de (ondergekelderde) keuken.
Waardering
De voormalige naaischool aan de Jongemastraat 8 te Bolsward is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang:

The former SEWING SCHOOL at Bolsward was built in 1877 in traditional style, with neo-classical elements applied. Description
The former Sewing School on a rectangular ground plan is constructed from brown brickwork on a natural stone plinth and is covered by a hipped roof with black glazed Dutch tiles and two corner chimneys with cappings. The layout of the front facade corresponds with the original interior layout: a long corridor with on the left the four-bay wide school classroom and on the right the two-bay wide residence. The front facade, terminated by a cornice, is asymmetrically divided by an equally projecting central projection with rounded corners and natural stone drip mouldings. The monumental entrance arrangement is formed by double panelled doors with cast-iron grilles and fanlight with rounded corners, set in an aedicula with composite capitals; in the triangular pediment the date 1877 is inscribed. The side facades are blind. The still visible part of the rear facade has four six-pane windows with rounded corners and natural stone drip mouldings. The INTERIOR is partially still original. The first room to the right of the corridor is the most intact and still has a number of original elements. Including the wooden window sills and folding shutters with panels, the beam ceiling and the beautifully decorated marble fireplace. The right section of the bedside wall with panelled doors has been removed to provide access to the (cellared) kitchen.
