Waardering

Double entrance door with a window at either side. Corner sections slightly projecting. Broad entrance staircase.
In the front facade behind the entrance section in the second storey tall half windows. Other windows of front facade of varying size. Small basement windows. Corner sections of front facade emphasized by horizontal and vertical ribs.

In the right section of front facade an extension in two storeys with a width of three window bays. Some accents in the form of heavy lintels.
In the left side facade in the first storey a horizontal row of windows and in the third storey three windows with the brick laid in a cross shape at the top of the middle window. On the right side facade of the chapel room an extension in two storeys with flat roof, and an extension in one storey with flat roof with a tower-like volume on top. In the facade of the building section with two storeys three double doors with tall fanlights. The extension in one storey forms the connection with the post-war school buildings at the rear.
On the left side facade of the chapel room extensions in two and one storey with flat roofs. On this facade side an extension in one storey from around 1980. This extension is excluded from protection. In the left section of the rear facade a profiled continuous flue duct. The structure of the INTERIOR is largely intact. Of the interior the following is amongst others of importance: corridor floors with red tiles with a band in black tiles around; wainscoting in grey glazed tiles; staircase with steps in black natural stone and wrought-iron handrail beginning with a curl. Chapel room with triforium with wooden balustrade; pointed-arch shaped stained-glass windows partly with five-part tracery; at the altar side a large pointed arch.
On the street side a wrought-iron fence on a low brick wall. At the height of the entrance building a gate with a brick column with bulbous capital on either side.
Valuation
The former teacher training college is of cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a cultural and typological development. The school possesses architectural-historical value because of its particular importance for the history of architecture, as an example of the oeuvre of architect F.P.J. Peutz and due to the distinctive relationship between exterior and interior. The building marks in the oeuvre of the architect the break with the influence of the Nieuwe Bouwen. Architect Peutz's teacher training college is the last and most important building by this architect that can be described as academically traditionalist. Ensemble value is derived by the school from the distinctive location at the Bekkerveld and thereby of importance for the appearance of this part of Heerlen. The school is finally of general importance due to the high degree of architectural integrity of the exterior and a large part of the interior and the architectural-historical, typological and functional rarity.
