The register's description

Inleiding

Waardering

Dubbele woning van algemeen architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege:

- de afmetingen en bouwstijl van het pand waardoor het een bijzondere plaats inneemt binnen het oeuvre van Loggers;

- de op de Amsterdamse School geïnspireerde bouwstijl; de redelijke gaafheid van het pand;

Introduction

The house "Panochthus" was built in 1935 to a design by the architect Loggers as a DOUBLE DWELLING HOUSE with an adjoining architect's office. The villa has an organic appearance and is also known as "the Camel". The building style is inspired by the villas of the Amsterdam School as they were built around 1920 in Park Meerwijk in Bergen.

Originally the house consisted of two building volumes under a continuous roof, after the war the two building parts were connected to each other. The loggia in the right side gable of the house was replaced by a balcony after the war. The character of the property has not been affected by these alterations. The house is located in a wooded area at the foot of the Holterberg and harmonises excellently with the surroundings through its building style.

Description

An elongated property consisting of one storey that rises from the middle of the building towards the end gables which are two storeys high. The property, constructed in red brick, has a curved, reed-thatched roof with a bulge in the middle of the building and is rounded above the end gables. The northern end gable has a half-hipped roof. The windows of the property are fitted with steel frames.

Front facade with simple entrance and various multi-pane windows. Above this facade a roof dormer under a catslide roof with two six-pane windows and an eyebrow window.

On the rear side there is a door under a semicircular arch and various multi-pane windows. On the roof above this facade three roof dormers under catslide roofs with double six-pane windows and an eyebrow window.

The left side facade divided into six segments has on the ground floor six twelve-pane windows within a concrete frame. Between both storeys there is a cemented part with above it four twelve-pane windows in a concrete frame. The northern gable is wider on the first floor, this is accentuated by a horizontal white ornamental cornice which is placed in line with the end of the rubbing rail between ground floor and first floor. On the ground floor a twelve-pane window is placed, above it is a balcony with wooden balustrade supported on wooden corbels. On the first floor further a glazed door flanked by a three-light window.

Valuation

Double dwelling of general architectural-historical significance because of:

- the dimensions and building style of the property which gives it a special place within Loggers' oeuvre;

- the building style inspired by the Amsterdam School; the reasonable integrity of the property;

- the location of the property in a wooded environment with which the organic building style of the property harmonises beautifully.
