Aannemer is Fa. A. Scholte.

Description
Introduction:
NETHERLANDS REFORMED CHURCH from 1885 with neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic features.
The design is by architect P. van de Erve jr. from Breda.
Contractor is Fa. L. Nooten from Helmond. The building costs amounted to f 4,190.00. The consecration took place on 1 November 1885 by Reverend Dr. A. Scholte. The church, which stands freely on the plot, has a rectangular plan with front or south gable facing the Speelheuvelplein.
On the northeast side a consistory room has been added. In 1965 the church was renovated.
Until 1868 the Netherlands Reformed congregation worshipped in the medieval Lambertuskerk. After demolition of the nave of this church, until the construction of their own church in 1885, they worshipped in the remaining choir of the Lambertuskerk.
Description:
The church is a hall-type building with three-sided closure, four bays deep, under a gabled roof. The consistory room has a hipped roof. Both roofs are covered with natural slate in Dutch bond. Facing the square a symmetrical pilaster gable with projecting portal provided with pediment and pinnacle. The spout gable has a climbing arch frieze, clock face with clockwork, horizontal bands and a plastered plinth. Furthermore the gable is crowned by a square bell turret with spire roof and weathervane.
The turret carries a carillon of eighteen bells.
The masonry consists of red machine-made bricks laid in cross-bond. The nave has pilaster-like pilasters. In the arch above the large window of the front gable ornamental brickwork. Cement corner and closure stones in pointed arch and arch frieze. The wall openings of the church are provided with cast-iron Gothic pointed-arch windows with lozenge-shaped glazing bars. In the fanlight of the portal and in the round window of the rear gable a geometric glazing pattern.
The interior has a stuccoed ribbed vault with iron tie-rods. In the outer wall cast-iron wall anchors.
In the church an octagonal oak pulpit from 1740 with brass lectern, baptismal font and wooden sounding board with gilded sun burst, made by the carpenter Godefridus Scheepers from Heeze.
Valuation:
The Netherlands Reformed church is of general importance. The building is of cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of the development of the Reformed religion in the south and is also important as an example of the typological development of the Reformed village church in a Catholic region. The building is of architectural-historical importance through its style and detailing and is also important as an example of the work of architect Van de Erve. It has ensemble value because of its situation, connected with the development of Someren in the nineteenth century. It is important as a relatively rare and intact example of a small Reformed village church from a period in which few Reformed churches were built in the south.
