Inleiding

Introduction

LonghouseFARM 'Kopervik' owes its name to the place of the same name in Norway where the owner Gerlacus Ribbius Peletier of the Linschoten estate was located when he was informed of the fire that destroyed his farm Elisabethshoeve along the Haardijk. The new farm was built in 1934 according to a design by Voorburg architect Herman van der Kloot Meyburg. At the request of the builder Peletier, he had his master Van der Kloot Meyburg create a design in a historicising, traditional style. Influences of the so-called (brick) architecture of Berlage are recognisable in particular in the interior of the farm.

The farm has great stylistic affinity with the adjacent farm 'Haugesund' (Haardijk 5), which was also designed by Van der Kloot Meyburg. On the left side of the farm runs a tree-lined drive to the back yard where a hay barn and a shed stand, which are of secondary importance for protection.

Description

A partly cellared longhouse farm with its ridge direction nearly perpendicular to the Haardijk consists of one storey on an approximately rectangular ground plan under a thatched hipped saddle roof with red ridge finials. The grey brick facades are laid in stretcher bond, in which cross windows and bull's-eye windows are set, as well as sash windows, fitted with glazing bars and (half) shutters. The stable section has double stable windows with glazing bars and grilles. The front facade (east) is a hipped gable with an asymmetrical arrangement of four window bays, fitted with ornamental wall anchors. On the right is the living room with a small living room window and a cellar light. Under the half-hipped end is a two-light window with casements. The hipped rear facade has a symmetrical arrangement with an arched, clamped door in the central axis and an arched manure door at the gable ends. On either side of the middle door is an arched stable window with iron glazing bars. The left side facade has an entrance section at the height of the living section. The roof slope is raised locally here. The entrance consists of a clamped, bottom and top door with a narrow three-light fanlight. On the door frame are painted the building year (1934) and the name (Kopervik) of the farm. On either side of this is a glazed two-light window with narrow fanlight and half shutters. The facade steps back to the left and connects to the narrower stable section of the farm. In the side facade of the stable section are five stable windows. The right side facade has, at the height of the living section, a later realised intermediate section under a flat roof (which falls outside the protection), which connects the dwelling to the scourings shed located along the ditch. The scourings shed is covered by a thatched saddle roof that stands perpendicular to the farm.

The interior and ground plan layout are in nearly original condition. The hall is executed in neat brickwork (half-brick bond). An arched passage leads to the living room. Wooden clamped doors, one with leaded glass side lights, lead to the other rooms. In the living room there is a beam ceiling and a fireplace section with decorative brickwork. To the right of this is a cupboard built in with double clamped lath doors and original hinges and fastenings. The stable, with a slightly narrower ground plan, has a load-bearing structure consisting of anchor beam trusses, where the traditional truss plates are absent. The rafters of the roof truss structure are let into the head of the posts.

Valuation

The farm 'Kopervik' is of general importance for its cultural and architectural-historical value as a characteristic example of a longhouse farm in a historicising, traditional building style from the 1930s of the 20th century, which forms part of the oeuvre of architect H. van der Kloot Meyburg. Both in terms of the main form and the detailing of exterior and interior, the farm is in original condition. The farm also has ensemble value in that it, together with a number of farms along the Haardijk, belongs to the Linschoten estate and moreover shows great affinity with the nearby farm Haardijk 5.
