Inleiding
Villa `Florence Grove' werd in 1887-1888 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van W. van Doornik voor jhr. J. Hartsen. Hartsen was mede-oprichter en direkteur van de Baarnse gasfabriek. Het pand is opgetrokken in chaletstijl.
Omschrijving
De aan de Prins Bernhardlaan gelegen VILLA is op een in hoofdzaak vierkante plattegrond opgetrokken en telt twee bouwlagen onder een samengestelde kap en haaks op elkaar staande geknikte zadeldaken. Deze zijn gedekt met leien.
De vensters en stolpende deuren zijn voornamelijk schuifvensters met getoogde bovenzijde en hebben persiennes. De gevels zijn voorzien van siermetselwerk zoals tandlijsten en speklagen van gekleurd metselwerk. De tandlijst en strekkenlagen boven de vensters zijn voorzien van geel verblendsteen.
De voorgevel is asymmetrisch van opzet met links een risalerend bouwdeel met een afgeschuinde linkerzijde. Dit risaliet bevat een topgevel met overstekende daklijst die aan de onderzijde afgewerkt met ajourpanelen. Erboven bevindt zich voor het zadeldak een puntdakje op schoren. Tegen het geknikte geveldeel van het risaliet is in de tweede bouwlaag een balkon op schoren aangebracht onder het overstek. Tegen het teruggelegen rechter geveldeel is een aanbouw gezet met geknikte geveldelen. Deze aanbouw doet over de tweede bouwlaag dienst als balkon en is afgezet met een balkonhek met houten ajourpanelen. De rechterzijgevel heeft links een topgevel gelijk aan die van de voorgevel. Tegen de eerste bouwlaag is een erker met balkon gezet. De linkerzijgevel bevat de hoofdentree alsmede enige vensters onder een afdak. Rechts bevindt zich een getoogd venster. De tweede bouwlaag bevat vensters ter verlichting van het trappenhuis alsmede een getoogd venster met een klein venster ter weerszijden.
Aan de achtergevel is rechts een aanbouw gezet die buiten de bescherming valt. Links is een serre geplaatst. Het dakschild bevat een dakkapel.
