Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
The former town hall of the municipality of Bunnik was built in 1897 after a design by architect E.G. Wentink. The town hall also housed a fire engine shed and a caretaker's residence. In 1938, after the municipal administration moved out, the building served as a fire station and caretaker's residence. For this purpose, a garage door was installed in the left bay. The building has served as a business office since 1982. The garage doors have been removed and the facade has been restored to its original state. The interior was adapted accordingly.
Description
A Neo-Renaissance TOWN HALL situated parallel to the street on an almost rectangular ground plan. The building has two storeys under a hipped roof covered with grey interlocking tiles, on which four small roof dormers with outswinging spires are set.
The facades are built in red brick and enriched with rendered string courses and accents next to window openings, relieving arches and relieving arches. A toothed moulding is laid in brick under the roof eaves. Between the first and second storeys a profiled natural stone band runs around (with the exception of the rear facade). Four ornamental wall anchors are set on the front facade. The facades contain mainly two-light windows with or without fanlights.
The front facade is three bays wide. The central axis features a projection with a slight advance that terminates as a stepped gable with pinnacle crowning, on which a weathervane is set. The steps are finished with natural stone slabs. On the ground floor there is a double door with a fanlight. The window above has a round-arched relieving arch with decorative brickwork in the arch drum. Mounted in the arch drum is the coat of arms of the municipality of Bunnik, consisting of a red rooster on a gold field. At the top is a four-light window with a fanlight, flanked by a round-arched blind window.
The rear facade is three bays wide and has on the central axis a projection that terminates as a stepped gable consistent with the front facade. A leaded glass window is set in the facade, behind which the stair arrangement is located. The projection is flanked by a building volume under a slightly sloping lean-to roof. To the right of the projection is a clamped lattice door and a barred window section in the facade. Behind this was originally a small prison. To the left of the projection is an extension under a flat roof, which falls outside the protection.
The right side facade has three axes, of which the right one is set back slightly. The two left windows in the piano nobile have round-arched arch drums with decorative brickwork. The left side facade has two axes on the ground floor and three axes on the upper storey. The two right windows in the piano nobile have round-arched arch drums with decorative brickwork.
Valuation
Of architectural-historical value as an example of a town hall and because of Neo-Renaissance style influences, as well as of cultural-historical value because of its original function as town hall for the municipality of Bunnik. Also of significance as a component in the oeuvre of architect E.G. Wentink.
