Inleiding
BOORTOREN voor het omhoog pompen van water ui de zoutlagen, die de Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie na het verkrijgen van de boorconcessie in 1933 in het zoutwinningsgebied bij Hengelo plaatste. Inmiddels zijn de meeste boortorens vervangen door lage pompgebouwtjes. De toren is identiek aan de torens Boekeloseweg (nr. 27) en Rougoorweg (nr. 16). De ligging van de torens nr. 27, 16 en 44 op het terrein van de zoutfabriek legt een directe relatie met de verwerking van het zout.
Omschrijving
Geteerde houten toren (nr 44) die zich naar boven verjongt onder een getoogd dakje. De toren is samengesteld uit een houten gebintwerk, geplaatst op betonnen poeren en bekleed met staande houten delen. De vloer is met oorspronkelijke klinkers bestraat. In de toren rechtgesloten houten vensters met roedenverdeling.
Waardering
De zouttoren is van cultuur-, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege:
- de betekenis van de zoutwinning voor de sociaal-economische geschiedenis van Hengelo en omgeving
- de bijzondere typologie van de toren

Introduction
BORING TOWER for pumping water up from the salt layers, which the Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie placed in the salt extraction area near Hengelo after obtaining the boring concession in 1933. Tarred wooden tower (no. 44) which tapers upwards under an arched roof. The tower is composed of a wooden frame structure, placed on concrete piers and clad with vertical wooden parts. The floor is paved with original clinker bricks. In the tower straight-closed wooden windows with glazing bars.
