Omschrijving

HOOFDGEBOUW onderdeel 1 (Beerschoten).

Description

MAIN BUILDING component 1 (Beerschoten). The symmetrically planned country house from 1890-1891 was built in eclectic style on the site of a predecessor. The property has a rectangular floor plan and consists of a tall square central block (basement and two storeys) and two lower side wings. The three building sections are separately roofed by flattened hipped roofs covered with muted pantiles, which are furnished with an iron crête. The walls are red-washed and have plastered corner blocks. In the encircling base of plastered rustic blocks and hardstone bands the cellar lights are installed. The main entrance is located in the north-east facade. A broad staircase leads to an entrance portico of four Tuscan columns under a pediment upon which rests the balcony with hardstone balustrade. A large three-part window group with double doors opens onto the green balcony. On either side of the main entrance is a window terrace with an outlined round-arch window and an outlined window with triangular pediment. The rear facade of the central block is furnished with a balcony over the full width on both the first floor and the bel-etage, resting respectively on cast-iron and natural stone columns. Above the encircling cornice of the central block stands a balustrade which is interrupted by two Tuscan-detailed roof dormer windows and corner piers. The corner piers are furnished with cast vases, which recur on either side of the front staircase for the entrance section (inscription: L. Schutz Zeist). The facades of the side wings are identical: on the bel-etage two windows are placed in a classical framing of pilasters, cornice with mosaicwork and a balustrade. In the mezzanine, which is likewise ornamented with mosaicwork, two bulbous windows. Against the north-west facade a five-sided privy-shaped extension at basement height. Upon this is a balcony that is roofed by a zinc dome roof resting on slender cast-iron corbels. In the INTERIOR is among other things important the neo-renaissance fireplace in the hall.

Valuation

The MAIN BUILDING (Beerschoten) is of general importance:

- because of the architectural design in eclectic style from 1890-1891;

- as a representative example of eclectic architecture from the 19th century;

- because of the characteristic location within the historic garden and park layout;

- because of the functional-spatial relationship with the other components of the country estate.
