Omschrijving
Inleiding
NB Het inrijhek met stenen pijlers is reeds rijksmonument.
Omschrijving

Description
Introduction
Former herenboerderij situated on the south side of Volgerweg with tall front house, named "Volger Wijck" and built around 1875 in eclectic style. The entrance gate with the name of the country estate on it is of older date. The farmhouse is a 19th-century variant of the various herenboerderijen that were built in the 17th and 18th centuries as part of the country retreats, often combined with farmhouses, of urban investors in the Beemster.
The farmhouse currently contains two dwellings: Volgerweg 36 and Volgerweg 37.
NB The entrance gate with stone piers is already a national monument.
Description
The front house of the farmhouse is a cellared rectangular volume consisting of two storeys with a hipped roof, covered with black Dutch tile and provided at both roof peaks with a chimney. The masonry is built in red brick with on the front facade (S) a horizontal and vertical articulation in render. The horizontal articulation of the symmetrical front facade (S) consists of rendered masonry up to the under-sills of the windows on the ground floor, a cornice string at the height of the first-floor level and a rendered mezzanine. The vertical articulation of the front facade consists of four rendered pilasters with false joints and recessed fields. The front facade has five window bays and is divided by the four pilasters into three bays. The middle bay (one window bay wide) contains on the ground floor a double panel door with cushion panels and provided with a fanlight featuring a grille. This entrance is flanked on either side by a narrow three-light window. Above the entrance is a balcony on corbels. The balcony is accessed from the first floor via a framed double four-light panel door with two-light fanlight under a cornice on corbels. Above the cornice is a smaller arched two-light window. The middle bay is closed off by a small triangular gable that cuts through the mezzanine. The flanking bays each contain on ground floor and first floor two six-light sash windows with rounded top corners. The mezzanine contains horizontal two-light windows in the window bays. The left side (W) of the front house has one window bay, has one pilaster near the corners and a cornice string at the height of the first-floor level. On ground floor and first floor is a six-light sash window.
The right side (E) of the dwelling is identical to the left side.
The interior of the dwelling is largely preserved in its original state and contains, among other things, stuccoed ceilings in both front rooms and the central passage. Both front rooms contain the original fireplaces. The barn - separated from the front house by means of a fire wall - stands on a rectangular plan with a lean-to section at the rear. The wooden skeleton consists of a double square with overhang on the side of the fire wall. The masonry, like the front house, is built in red brick and the hipped roof, which above the lean-to section transitions to a gabled roof, is covered like the front house with black Dutch tile. The left side (W) of the barn has, directly next to the front house, a panel door with fanlight. To the right of this follows first a six-light sash window and subsequently two semicircular iron stall windows with pronounced framing.
The right side of the barn has, near the front house (N), a panel door with fanlight, to its left first a six-light sash window and subsequently four small square stall windows. The rear side of the barn has to the right (E) the said lean-to section with wooden gable top and centrally placed clamped door with fanlight. The fanlight is flanked by a small square wooden four-light window. To the left is the threshing door. The western wall of the lean-to section has a small four-light stall window. The square stall windows are all of wood.
Valuation
The former herenboerderij Volgerwijck in eclectic style is of general importance for its cultural and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of richly decorated late 19th-century farmhouse construction in the Beemster, inspired by the older country estates.
