Inleiding

Introduction

STOLP FARMHOUSE of the North Holland type, dating from 1860, located on the north side of the Kreil and with the right side gable parallel to the Westfriese omringdijk. The ridge line is perpendicular to the Kreil.

Description

Stolp farmhouse built on a rectangular ground plan under thatch-covered hipped roof with a stepped gable on the front (S) and rear (N) and a pantile border all around. The pantile-covered sections contain black Dutch tiles, the pantile border on the left side (W) red Dutch tiles.

The internal wooden load-bearing structure of the farmhouse consists of a double square with tie-beam trusses and overhang above the dwelling. On the south side of the square is the dwelling, on the east side the threshing floor, on the north side the short rule and perpendicular to it on the west side the long rule of the stable. The masonry is built in red brick above a rendered plinth of yellow brick, pointed with cement. In various places in the masonry the projections of the wall anchors are visible.

The asymmetrically arranged front gable (S) has six window bays, five of which contain a slightly arched wooden six-pane sash window with stretcher. The second bay from the left contains the front door, consisting of a panelled door with iron decorative grille and arbor vitae in the fanlight. The front gable is finished with a simply profiled wooden drip moulding. At the top of the stepped gable the hipped roof is pierced by a round chimney on a square base.

The right side gable (E) contains on the far left a wooden six-pane sash window of the dwelling. To the right of it pilasters divide the wall surface of the threshing floor into five bays, two of which contain a round iron window.

The rear gable (N) has on the far left a recessed threshing floor door; to the right of it in the short rule are three arched iron stable windows and a clamped door with fanlight.

The left side gable (W) contains five high-placed rectangular wooden stable windows.

Valuation

The stolp farmhouse is of general importance from an architectural and cultural-historical point of view as a well-preserved example of agricultural architecture from the second half of the 19th century. The farmhouse has ensemble value because of its location at the foot of the dike.
