Inleiding
Neo-gotisch kerkgebouw uit 1921 gebouwd door Johannes Sluymer uit Enschede. De kerk heeft inmiddels de oorspronkelijke functie verloren en is in particuliere handen. Delen van interieur en inventaris zijn verdwenen. Bescherming richt zich op het oorspronkelijke kerkgebouw en heeft geen betrekking op de platte aanbouwen aan de zuidoost-kant.
Omschrijving
Opbouw volgens centraalbouw-principe. Sobere bakstenen opbouw met hoogopgaande steunberen. Hoofdvolume met zadeldak en centraal geplaatste dakruiter; dwarsvolume met zadeldak waarin enkele dakkapelletjes; in de hoeken zijkapellen en of uitbouwen. Aan de oostzijde een vijfkantige absis. In de overgang naar de pastorie een verbindingsgang met sacristie onder tentdak. Eenvoudige goot op klossen. Spitsboogvensters met glas-in-lood. De westelijke hoofdentree onder gedrukte spitsboog met eenvoudige deuren met smeedijzeren sierbeslag.

Kerkgebouw van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de relatie met het katholicisme in de zuidoostelijke veenstreek; de kwaliteit van het oorspronkelijk ontwerp en de markante ligging op de overgang naar het landelijk gebied.

Neo-Gothic church building from 1921 built by Johannes Sluymer from Enschede. The church has meanwhile lost its original function and is in private hands. Description
Construction according to centralised building principle. Austere brick construction with tall buttresses. Main volume with gabled roof and centrally placed roof turret; transverse volume with gabled roof containing several small roof dormers; in the corners side chapels and/or extensions. On the east side a pentagonal apse. In the transition to the rectory a connecting corridor with sacristy under pitched roof. Simple gutter on corbels. Pointed arch windows with leaded glass. The western main entrance under depressed pointed arch with simple doors with wrought-iron ornamental ironwork.
Valuation
Church building of cultural-historical, architectural-historical and urban planning importance on account of its relationship with Catholicism in the south-eastern peat region; the quality of the original design and its prominent location on the transition to rural landscape.
