Inleiding

De middelste travee telt één as.

Introduction

FARMHOUSE of the Kop-Romp type, situated on the south side of the Dorpsweg. The farmhouse, with front house in eclectic style, dates probably from 1878 and was built within the same decade as the more or less related farmhouse of the Kop-Romp type at Dorpsweg 78.

Description

The farmhouse is built on a north-south oriented ground plan consisting of two rectangles. The front house stands on the northern rectangle, the barn on the southern one, which is higher and wider than the front house and is separated from it by a firewall. Both adjoining building structures have one storey with roof space. The front house has a gently sloping gabled roof with black flat Frisian tile with thin centre line. The barn has a steep gabled roof with a hipped end on the rear side and is thatched with a pan border of black Dutch tiles. The southern roof hip has a stepped gable with red Dutch tiles. The gabled roof of the front house has carved wind braces with a brace connector and six vertical wooden decorative elements. The barn has internally a square-frame structure consisting of four pillars with tie-beam trusses and oversail to the north, anchored in the firewall. The spaces around the square-frame structure have been preserved. These are the horse stable to the north, the long byres on the west and the short byres on the south and the threshing floor on the east. The masonry of the farmhouse is built in red brick decorated with plaster. The front facade (north) of the front house is symmetrical in layout and has five window axes. Four pilasters, two of which are at the corners, divide the facade into three bays. The middle bay has one axis. This axis has a double panel door with glass panels and fanlight placed in a portico. Above it is a balcony resting on consoles with richly carved balusters. The balcony is reached via a double panel door with large glass panels and a fanlight. The front door is flanked by two arched sash windows with plastered eyebrows. The eyebrows of the windows in the front facade and the identical windows in both side facades of the front house are connected by a drip moulding. The balcony is flanked by an arched sash window with T-profile. The right side facade (west) of the front house has on the ground floor three sash windows, of which the middle one is a T-window and otherwise entirely identical to those in the front facade. At the far right there is a panel door under a fanlight with rounded upper corners. Directly under the eaves there are four single-light windows for lighting the attic floor. The left side facade (east) of the front house has on the ground floor two windows, identical to those in the front and right facades. To the left and right of the southernmost window there is a small square window. Under the eaves there are three single-light windows for lighting the attic floor. The front side (north) of the barn projecting on either side of the front house (firewall) has a threshing-floor door to the left of the front house and to the right of it a round iron window. A similar window is also found in the gable top. The left and right sides of the barn have a series of arched iron stable windows. The rear side (south) of the barn has the threshing-floor door on the right. The threshing-floor door has two four-paned fanlights. To the left of it a series of arched iron and a clamped door with fanlight.

Valuation

The Kop-Romp farmhouse dating from circa 1878 is of general importance from an architectural and cultural-historical perspective as an example of a late nineteenth-century farmhouse preserved virtually intact with eclectic influence. The farmhouse also has group value within the protected village scene of Twisk.
