Inleiding

Introduction

A STOLPBOERDERIJ built in a regional style, of the derived North Holland type, which bears a stone with the year 1893 on its front facade but which is older in its core. The year likely indicates a reconstruction realised in that year in which the square was doubled and the masonry was renewed. The doubling of the square occurred towards the rear (N). Around 1910 a conservatory was built to the left (W) against the front facade. The farmhouse stands on the north side of the Dorpsweg with the ridge line perpendicular to the road. The front yard is separated from the public road by a wrought-iron fence with cast-iron fence posts.

Description

A stolpboerderij built on a rectangular floor plan with an extended central section under a tiled saddle roof on the front side (S) and a rear extension on the rear side (N). The rear extension served as an extension of the cow barn which is still present along the entire east side of the square. The farmhouse has a thatched hipped roof with a roof light in stepped form on the front side (N). In the apex of the light a simple rectangular chimney penetrates the roof shield. The rear side has a half-tiled and half-thatched roof shield. A simple rectangular chimney penetrates the thatched portion. The roof has a surrounding tile edge above the gutters. The tiled portions consist of black glazed Dutch tiles. Only on the rear side does the roof shield have red Dutch tiles. The same applies to the western roof shield of the saddle roof above the rear extension. The masonry is built in red brick. The western wall of the threshing floor consists of rabated planking. The front facade has projecting corners, a cemented plinth and projecting relieving arches above all window openings. The central section has a mouse-tooth in the masonry above each of the three relieving arches on the front side. The internal timber load-bearing structure consists of a double square with tie-beam trusses. The double square has an overhang on the long west side above the threshing floor. Along the entire south side (front) of the square lies the dwelling. On the east side of the square is located the cow barn, of which the rear extension projects to the north. Threshing floor and cow barn are positioned parallel to each other in the floor plan (characteristic of the North Holland type). The front facade (S) is laid out symmetrically. The extended central section has bevelled corners and a gently sloping saddle roof with richly carved bargeboards and gutter mouldings. The central section has two sash windows on the ground floor which, like all window and door openings on the front facade, have a hood moulding at the top. On the ground floor the sash windows have at the top a wooden plate with decorative carved work, behind which the sun blinds were originally drawn up. The first floor has one centrally positioned sash window with centre-post in the sash frame. Above this window is located, above the aforementioned mouse-tooth, a facade stone with the year 1893. Above this year the gable top has a small round iron window for lighting the loft above the central section. Both side walls of the central risalit each have a narrow sash window on the ground floor and a small round-arch window on the first floor. The lower gable sections flanking the central section are finished with cornices. The masonry to the right (E) of the central section has, immediately next to this central section, a panelled door with fanlight and next to it a sash window, both on the gable end of the south side of the cow barn. The masonry to the right of the central section, immediately next to this central section, has a richly decorated panelled door with fanlight and next to it the conservatory realised around 1910. This conservatory is five-sided and contains on all sides vertical panes of glass which on the front are installed in glazed doors. The top has double moulding with hanging carved work. The left side (W) consists largely of threshing floor wall and only in the south-west corner side wall of the dwelling. The wall of the dwelling and part of the threshing floor wall is executed in brick. This section has narrow vertical wall anchors. The threshing floor wall has the aforementioned rabated planking above masoned plinth. The wall of the dwelling has glazed doors, a sash window as on the front facade and a small window with four-pane frame. The rabated planking has two such small windows. The right side (E) consists of low masonry under a lean-to roof. This masonry has a series of hood-moulded iron stalls windows below the gutter. The masonry has narrow vertical wall anchors for bracing the internal masonry posts. The rear side (N) has to the right (W) the repositioned and braced threshing floor door and to the left the extended volume of the rear extension. Between these is reconstructed masonry with three windows and a door. The western wall of the rear extension has three hood-moulded cast-iron stalls windows. The gable top of the rear extension has a horizontally divided door and a gable top with vertical planking.

Valuation

The stolpboerderij executed in regional building tradition with its associated fence is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical point of view as a well-preserved example of (late) 19th-century rural building craft. Moreover, the farmhouse has ensemble value as a characteristic component of the protected village scene of Twisk.
