Omschrijving
Inleiding
Voormalige woning met winkel, van rond 1900 in eclectische stijl. Centraal gelegen aan de Brink in Gieten. De winkel is karakteristiek voor de veranderende behoefte aan voorzieningen die voorvloeide uit de verstedelijking van de Brink, rond de eeuwwisseling. De winkel vormt typologisch een schakel tussen de boerderij-met-winkel-aan-huis en de volledig zelfstandige winkel.
De woning met winkel is verbouwd tot kantoor.
De bescherming betreft het totale volume, de oorspronkelijke gevels en de detaillering van de winkelpui.
Omschrijving
Woning met winkel opgetrokken in baksteen over één bouwlaag onder afgeknot schilddak. Rondom een hoofdgestel.
In de voorgevel rechts de winkelpui, vormgegeven als een pilasterstelling met basement met diamantkoppen en hoofdgestel met verkropte kroonlijst. De hoekpilasters zijn betegeld met bloempotjes. De tegels in het fries hebben een palmetmotief. Tussen twee stijlen de entree naar de winkel.
Links van de winkelpui twee rechtgesloten T-vensters onder een segmentboogvormige strek met geaccentueerde sluit- en aanzetstenen. In de boogtrommel tegelwerk. In het dakschild een moderne dakkapel met een tongewelf.
In de rechtergevel (W) drie vensters als in de voorgevel, de rechter twee gekoppeld. Geheel rechts een vergelijkbaar venster, echter zonder segmentboog (oorspronkelijk een deur).
In de linkergevel vanaf rechts een venster als aan de voorzijde, een deur en een venster als voor zonder boogtrommel.
De achtergevel is opnieuw opgemetseld en heeft moderne kozijnen.

Woonhuis met winkel van algemeen cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch belang:

Description
Residential building with shop constructed in brick over one storey under a truncated hipped roof. A main entablature all around.
In the front facade on the right the shop front, designed as a pilaster arrangement with basement with diamond heads and main entablature with broken cornice. The corner pilasters are tiled with flowerpot patterns. The tiles in the frieze have a palmette motif. Between two posts the entrance to the shop.
Left of the shop front two closed T-windows under a segmental arched strip with accentuated closing and setting stones. In the arch barrel tilework. In the roof section a modern roof gable with a barrel vault.
In the right facade (W) three windows as in the front facade, the right two coupled. Far right a similar window, however without segmental arch (originally a door).
In the left facade from the right a window as on the front, a door and a window as at the front without arch barrel.
The rear facade has been repointed and has modern frames.
