Inleiding
Bij de stichting in 1869 van de rooms katholieke begraafplaats is het POORTGEBOUW/BAARHUIS gebouwd. Het bakstenen gebouw is uitgevoerd in een mengvorm van neo-gotiek en Hollandse neo-renaissancestijl. Dit poortgebouw is nagenoeg identiek aan het exemplaar dat in Rijssen staat (mon.nr. 508557) op de in 1880 gestichte r.k. begraafplaats aldaar. De klok is gegoten door Gerhardus van Wou.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaand poortgebouw/baarhuis opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een zadeldak, gedekt met leien. Het dak heeft in het midden steekkappen boven het poortgedeelte. Op de kruising van de kappen een overhoeks geplaatst hoog klokkentorentje met ingezwenkt tentdak (boven inzwenking octogonaal) met leien in Maasdekking. Galmgaten onder topgeveltje met windveren. Trapgevels aan alle dakeinden.
Het gebouw heeft een horizontale gevelgeleding: een bakstenen plint, sierbanden van baksteen en waterlijsten. In de gevels aan de straatzijde (Z) en in de poort blinde spitsboognissen. Aan de begraafplaats zijde (N) recht gesloten deuren onder uitgemetselde spitsbogen met gotische traceringen in de boogvelden. Risalerend poortgedeelte met spitsbogen. Poortdoorgang onder kruis-ribgewelf. In de geveltoppen recht gesloten vensters onder spitsbogen. Roosvensters in alle boogvelden. Muurankers in siersmeedijzer. In de dakruiter bevindt zich een klok met de slagtoon C2 en datering 1494, gehangen in een smeedijzeren klokkenstoel.

When the Roman Catholic cemetery was founded in 1869, the GATEWAY BUILDING/MORTUARY was constructed. The brick building was executed in a mixed form of neo-Gothic and Dutch neo-Renaissance style. This gateway building is nearly identical to the example that stands in Rijssen (mon. no. 508557) on the Roman Catholic cemetery founded there in 1880. The bell was cast by Gerhardus van Wou.
Description
Freestanding gateway building/mortuary erected in brick from a rectangular ground plan under a gabled roof, covered with slate. The roof has in the middle steeply pitched gables above the gateway section. At the intersection of the pitches a diagonally placed high bell tower with set-back tent roof (above set-back octagonal) with slate in Maas bond. Sound holes under small stepped gable with weathervanes. Stepped gables at all roof ends.
The building has a horizontal facade articulation: a brick plinth, decorative bands of brick and drip mouldings. In the facades on the street side (S) and in the gateway, blind pointed arch recesses. On the cemetery side (N) straight closed doors under finely detailed pointed arches with Gothic tracery in the arch fields. Projecting gateway section with pointed arches. Gateway passage under cross-ribbed vault. In the gable tops straight closed windows under pointed arches. Rose windows in all arch fields. Ornamental wall anchors in wrought iron. In the roof turret is located a bell with the strike note C2 and dating 1494, hung in a wrought iron bell frame.
