Inleiding

Description
Introduction
This FARMHOUSE of the head-neck-body type approximately, now a residential farmhouse, was built in the artisanal-traditional manner in the third quarter of the 19th century, some time after the construction of the Van Engelenvaart to the west of the farmhouse (c. 1850). The farmhouse lies parallel to the said waterway and set well back from the road on its own spacious plot with an oak tree and a chestnut tree on either side of the front house. The farmhouse is called Rika-zathe after the current proprietor. The lean-to on the east facade of the front house and the outbuilding with wooden extensions at the rear of the farmhouse are of subsidiary importance for protection by the state due to minor architectural value.
Description
The cellar-floored front house with neck stands to the side of the middle of the barn section. The farmhouse is entirely built of brown bricks. The front house has a cellar storey and a chamber storey under a gabled roof between stepped gables, covered with black glazed corrugated Frisian tiles, and two ridge chimneys with protective boards. The neck has one storey under a gabled roof which is covered with black muted Dutch tiles. The barn has one storey under a hipped roof, covered with different tile types: black muted Dutch tiles on the northern roof and for the rest mostly red unglazed Dutch tiles. The front house has in the east facade an access to the cellar and the corridor behind the stair to the chamber storey with above it a small corridor window; in the cellar storey are two arched cellar windows under arched string course with shutters; in the wall face are air bricks and floral wall anchors and above are two arched six-paned windows. In the north facade are two arched cellar windows with fanlight and glazing bars under arched string course; in the wall face are floral anchors and above are two six-paned windows. In the stepped gable are two small arched attic windows under arched string course. The mortared cornice, enlivened by floral anchors, rests on a setting stone with at the top an arch on mortared blocks. The eastern side facade has two cellar windows with shutters; the rest of the wall face has only air bricks and floral anchors but is otherwise blank. On the left in the facade of the front house an access has been broken through under a lean-to. On the west side of the neck is an arched H-window; on the east side are two arched H-windows directly below the roof edge and another rectilinear window. The upstanding masonry of the barn section rests on a basement of six layers of brick laid with a climbing bond. The front section of the barn, in the angle with the neck, has a residential function: here is the entrance and a living room. The wooden front door with cast-iron grilles has an iron cow in the arched fanlight. Next to it is a nine-paned iron stable window and a somewhat recessed semi-circular double glazed door. In the west facade of the barn are double stable doors with a four-paned side light and large nine-paned windows; in the east facade are six-paned arched stable windows with lattice bars on the inside; in the south facade is a stable door with a four-paned side light with six-paned arched stable windows. The owl boards on the barn have iron swans.
Valuation
The farmhouse is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical importance:
- as a typical example of this farmhouse type in Friesland,
- on account of the reasonable degree of integrity of the exterior,
- on account of the high degree of importance of the high-quality visual integrity in relation to the landscape surroundings,
- because it possesses a high-quality aesthetic and architectural quality,
- on account of the simple, yet carefully considered design of the traditional farmhouse type.
