Omschrijving
Inleiding
Waardering
De betonnen klokkenstoel met twee luidklokken is van algemeen cultuur-historisch en architectuurhistorisch belang;

Description
Introduction
The double BELL GANTRY dating from c. 1925 with two old CHURCH BELLS stands on the so-called circuit path on the grounds of the church of Gersloot, demolished in 1834. The grounds have since served as a cemetery. The cemetery is enclosed by trees and is accessible via a sand path. The bell gantry was restored in 1982.
Description
The double bell gantry, constructed entirely in reinforced concrete, stands on nine 'legs'. Eight of these stand on yellow brick piers with a natural stone coping stone. In the middle of the gantry structure stands a ninth leg without a pier. The whole is covered by an overhanging concrete gabled roof, topped with tar. The 'legs' of the bell gantry are interconnected by a system of concrete connectors, horizontal and diagonal, which provide the bell gantry with rigidity. Rungs are fitted on the middle leg at the sand path. The concrete gabled roof is crowned by a wrought iron ornament with a pinecone and an elegant weathervane.
Two bells hang in the gantry: one without a date, presumably from the 15th century; the other from 1618 (with inscription), cast by Hans Falck of Nuremberg in Leeuwarden.
Valuation
The concrete bell gantry with two church bells is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical significance;
- on account of the cultural-historical value of the church bells,
- as a special expression of a typological development of the bell gantry,
- on account of the reasonable degree of significance for the history of building technology, in particular as an early example of experimentation with reinforced concrete,
- on account of its high degree of integrity,
- on account of the particular rarity of concrete bell gantries in general.
