Inleiding
BOERDERIJ van het Kop-Romp-type aan de noordwestzijde van de Kaag en van deze doorgaande weg gescheiden door een ijzeren HEK. De boerderij - genaamd "Hoeve Arko" en gebouwd in eclectische trant - dateert in de huidige vorm uit het vierde kwart van de 19de eeuw.
Omschrijving
De boerderij heeft een noordwest-zuidoost gerichte plattegrond, bestaande uit twee achter elkaar gelegen rechthoeken van ongelijke grootte waarop het aan de weg staande voorhuis het kleinste volume vormt en het daarachter staande bedrijfsgedeelte het grootste volume vormt. Het voorhuis is lager dan het bedrijfsgedeelte en wordt hiervan gescheiden door een hogere brandmuur.
Het muurwerk van het voorhuis is opgetrokken in rode baksteen. De beide buitenhoeken en de voor- en de beide zijgevels hebben gebosseerde pilasters. Het muurwerk heeft een gecementeerde plint en strekken in verblendsteen. Het voorhuis heeft een zadeldak met platte Friese golfpan in zwart. De kap heeft een overstek aan de voorzijde met rijk gesneden windveren en à-jour-topstuk. In de nok bevindt zich een schoorsteen. De voorgevel is symmetrisch en heeft vijf vensterassen. De middelse as wordt geflankeerd door gebosseerde pilasters en bevat op de parterre een dubbele deur met gietijzeren harnas en op de verdieping een stolpdeur met glas. Boven de stolpdeur prijkt de naam Hoeve Arko op natuursteen. Aan weerszijden van de middenpartij bevinden zich twee schuifvensters die net als alle venster- en deuropeningen in het muurwerk van het voorhuis afgeronde bovenhoeken hebben. De linkerzijgevel (ZW) heeft nabij de brandmuur twee schuifvensters, de rechterzijgevel heeft nabij de voorgevel een schuifvenster en nabij de brandmuur een schuifvenster en een paneeldeur.
Beide zijgevels hebben een geprofileerde gootlijst.
Het muurwerk van het bedrijfsgedeelte is opgetrokken in dezelfde rode baksteen als het voorhuis en heeft ook een gecementeerde plint. Het bedrijfsgedeelte heeft een zadeldak dat aan de achterzijde als schilddak wordt afgesloten. De kap is rietgedekt met in de pannenrand een zwarte friese golfpan. De brandmuur - de grotendeels achter het voorhuis schuilgaande voorgevel van het bedrijfsgedeelte - heeft links (ZW) van het voorhuis de darsdeur en rechts van het voorhuis een rechthoekig schuifvenster. In het opgaande muurwerk bevinden zich vijf ronde vensteropeningen met gietijzeren ramen. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een sierlijst met akroteriën. De linkermuur (ZW) van het bedrijfsgedeelte heeft muurankers en vier liggende houten kozijnen met achthoekige hoofdvorm en ijzeren middenstijl en een opgeklampte deur die horizontaal is gedeeld. De rechterzijmuur (NO) heeft nabij de brandmuur twee schuifvenster. De achtermuur heeft stalvensters in beton.
Het ijzeren hek bestaat uit pijlers met daartussen getoogd hekwerk. De decoratie bestaat uit denneappels en leliemotieven.

A FARMHOUSE of the Head-Body type on the northwest side of the Kaag and separated from this through road by an iron FENCE. The farmhouse – named "Hoeve Arko" and built in eclectic style – dates in its current form to the fourth quarter of the 19th century.
Description
The farmhouse has a northwest-southeast oriented floor plan, consisting of two rectangles of unequal size positioned one behind the other, of which the front house standing on the road forms the smallest volume and the business section behind it forms the largest volume. The front house is lower than the business section and is separated from it by a higher firewall.
The masonry of the front house is constructed in red brick. Both outer corners and the front and both side facades have ashlar pilasters. The masonry has a cemented plinth and courses in facing brick. The front house has a gabled roof with flat Frisian glazed pantile in black. The roof truss has an overhang on the front side with richly carved wind braces and openwork gable ornament. In the ridge is a chimney. The front facade is symmetrical and has five window bays. The central bay is flanked by ashlar pilasters and contains on the ground floor a double door with cast-iron hardware and on the first floor a tall window with glass. Above the tall window the name Hoeve Arko appears on stone. On either side of the central section are two sash windows which, like all window and door openings in the masonry of the front house, have rounded upper corners. The left side facade (SW) has two sash windows near the firewall; the right side facade has a sash window near the front facade and near the firewall a sash window and a panelled door.
Both side facades have a profiled gutter moulding.
The masonry of the business section is constructed in the same red brick as the front house and also has a cemented plinth. The business section has a gabled roof that on the rear side is finished as a hipped roof. The roof truss is thatched with a black Frisian glazed pantile in the tile edge. The firewall – the facade of the business section largely hidden behind the front house – has the threshing floor door on the left (SW) of the front house and to the right of the front house a rectangular sash window. In the rising masonry are five circular window openings with cast-iron frames. The facade is closed off by a decorative moulding with acroters. The left wall (SW) of the business section has wall anchors and four lying timber frames with octagonal head form and iron centre post and a clamped door that is horizontally divided. The right side wall (NE) has two sash windows near the firewall. The rear wall has stable windows in concrete.
The iron fence consists of pillars with arched fencing between them. The decoration consists of pinecone and lily motifs.
Valuation
The eclectically detailed head-body farmhouse Hoeve Arko with its associated fence is of general importance owing to cultural-historical and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of late 19th-century rural architecture.
