Inleiding
Twee LANTAARNPALEN vervaardigd naar ontwerp van A.J.Kropholler en staande buiten aan de bovenzijde van de trap, voor het portaal en behorende tot het raadhuiscomplex. De lantaarns komen qua vorm en materiaalgebruik overeen met de door Kropholler ontworpen lichtarmaturen in het raadhuis.
Omschrijving
De lantaarnpalen zijn opgebouwd uit een vierkante bakstenen sokkel op hardstenen plint, met daarboven een zich verjongende bakstenen schacht. Tussen de overgang van de sokkel naar de schacht en op de schacht een hardstenen plaat. Op deze laatste plaat de vierhoekige bronzen en matglazen lantaarn, onder een piramidevormige, uitkragende kap.
Waardering
De lantaarnpalen zijn tevens van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf en representatief voorbeeld van een ontwerp voor een lichtarmatuur van de hand van A.J. Kropholler en vanwege de mate van gaafheid in hoofdvorm, detaillering en materiaalgebruik. De lantaarnpalen hebben voorts ensemblewaarden vanwege de ruimtelijke, functionele en stilistische samenhang met het raadhuis en vanwege de beeldbepalende situering aan de bovenzijde van de trap, op de hoofdas naar de hoofdingang.

Two LANTERN POSTS manufactured according to a design by A.J. Kropholler and standing outside at the top of the staircase, in front of the portico and belonging to the town hall complex. The lanterns correspond in form and material use with the light fittings designed by Kropholler in the town hall.
Description
The lantern posts are constructed from a square brick base on a sandstone plinth, above which a brick shaft that tapers. Between the transition from the base to the shaft and on the shaft a sandstone slab. On this latter slab the four-sided bronze and frosted glass lantern, under a pyramid-shaped, projecting cap.
Valuation
The lantern posts are also of general interest because of their architectural-historical value as an intact and representative example of a design for a light fitting by A.J. Kropholler and because of the degree of integrity in the main form, detailing and material use. The lantern posts furthermore have ensemble values because of the spatial, functional and stylistic coherence with the town hall and because of their distinctive situation at the top of the staircase, on the main axis to the main entrance.
